Dark web users are extorted by hackers

The authorities are not the only ones persecuting users who operate on the Dark Web. A hacker or group of hackers also decided to do the same, although it is an extortion case whereby they are sending letters threatening users to disclose their illegal activities if they do not pay a certain amount of money in Bitcoin.

This news was initially released by a Reddit user named StrangerDanger420, who shared images of a blackmail letter with the rest of the dark web community.

"You have participated in illegal activities and we have spied on you, " says a paragraph in the letter received by this user. Among other things, the scammers ask that the amount of $ 60 in Bitcoin be paid and if they do not receive the money, they threaten to reveal to the authorities the illegal activities carried out by the user on the dark web.

At the moment, the Reddit community has divided opinions regarding the authenticity of the threats, as some mocked the letter while others believe that it is related to the recent fall of the TradeRoute market, a platform where the sale and purchase of drugs.

It is still unclear how many users received these extortion letters, but what is known for now is that no one has fallen victim to the scam. The portfolio currently only has a single $ 60 transaction.

Another curiosity is that last week, the largest markets for drugs and medicines on the Dark Web stopped working without any prior notification from the administrators. It is not ruled out that they have received DDoS attacks followed by hacking attempts that could have led to the theft of private data from these users.
