This time we bring you the analysis of the Intel 760p SSD, which is one of the new SSD devices that aims to bring the benefits of NVMe technology to all users.

2018 seems to be the year of the arrival of NVMe storage technology to all users, until now the SSDs that were based on this protocol all had very high prices, something that is finally starting to change this year with the arrival of new models. Also with the drop in the price of NAND memory or so it seemed until recently…

Looking forward to seeing our review of this new Blue Giant SSD? Well here we go!

We thank Intel for the trust placed in ceding the product for analysis.

Intel 760p technical features

Unboxing and design

Intel 760p is offered in a small cardboard box based on the brand's blue and white colors. On the back we have a sticker that indicates the model we have chosen, its serial number and the format it presents.

Once we open the box we find the Intel 760p perfectly protected by a plastic blister to prevent it from suffering any type of damage during transport. Along with the SSD we find all the documentation.

We are already focusing on the Intel 760p, it is a very compact storage device, as it is based on the M.2-2280 format, which is only 80 mm long with a width of 22 mm. We can see the use of a PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface, which meets the demands of the NVMe protocol, and allows a maximum transfer speed of 3200 MB / s, it will be another matter whether it reaches it or not (we will see it in our results).

As we can see, the PCB is quite depopulated of components, this is due to the use of high-density memory chips, something that we will discuss in the next paragraph. This makes it an inexpensive device to manufacture.

Based on Intel's 64-layer NAND TLC memory technology, this SSD offers twice the density of 32-layer memory used in the previous generation Intel 600p. A higher storage density lowers the cost of producing the device, which can translate into a lower sale price to the user. Intel claims that doubling the density achieves a much faster and more efficient device, up to twice the speed and energy efficiency.

Along with the 64-layer memory we find an advanced controller (Silicon Motion SM2262) that makes use of the NVMe protocol, thanks to this Intel claims that the 256 GB unit is capable of reaching a sequential transfer rate of 3200 MB / s in reading and 1, 315 MB / s in writing. These figures put it slightly below the Samsung 960 EVO, which reaches a write of 1800 MB / s, but in return it is cheaper to manufacture.

The 256 GB model has a TBW of 144, which means writing a total of 25 GB of data per day for 5, 760 consecutive days, so the durability of this SSD is beyond doubt and will be a great option for gamers..

For the tests we will use the native controller of the x299 chipset, which is Intel's enthusiastic platform along with an i9-7900X and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. Our internal tests will be carried out with the best-optimized benchmarks for SSDs that currently exist:

  • Crystal Disk Mark. AS SSD Benchmark. Atto Benchmark. Anvil´s Storage.

Final words and conclusion about Intel 760p

The Intel 760p ranks among the best mid-range NVMe SSD options on the market. Its Silicon Motion SM2262 controller, the incorporation of 64-layer 3D TLC memories, its more than reasonable durability and more than decent read / write rates are ideal for any user.

We see quite a significant evolution in performance compared to the Intel 600P that we analyzed at the beginning of last year. This version no longer suffers from the performance drops offered by the 600p series… Now it is up to the standards of the main companies: Corsair, Samsung, Kingston, etc…

Regarding past performance tests, he has offered the numbers that he promises us in the technical sheet. For example, in Crystal Disk Mark we get 3131 MB / s in reading and 1226 MB / s in sequential writing. Great job Intel!

The price of one of the characteristics that Intel boasts most with its 760p, this unit comes in versions of 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB, with official prices of 79.90 euros, 122.90 euros and 217.90 euros, these will be launched in the coming weeks.

To put us in perspective, the Samsung 960 EVO 500 GB reaches an official price of 207 euros (if you get it on sale). Intel has promised that 1TB and 2TB versions will arrive, which will take a little longer to reach the market. What do you think about the Intel 760p? Is it an option that you shuffle for your purchase? We want to know your opinion! ?
