Intel 'barlow pass' would support up to 3200mt / s ddr4
Table of contents:
A new leaked slide shows that Intel's upcoming Barlow Pass DIMMs will support 3200MT / s DDR4 with a TDP of 15W. Intel further claims a 15% improvement in bandwidth from the persistent Optane memory platform for Cooper Lake and Ice Lake.
Intel 'Barlow Pass' with support up to 3200MT / s DDR4 and a 15W TDP
The Barlow Pass slide is shared by the well-known Twitter filter @KOMACHI_ENSAKA. Barlow Pass will succeed Apache Pass from Cascade Lake, which was Intel's first generation of persistent Optane memory DIMMs, which is DDR4 compatible. It is based on Intel's 3D non-volatile XPoint. Barlow Pass will be based on the second generation of 3D XPoint, which doubles the bit density to four layers.
Most notably, the slide shows that the Barlow Pass will have a TDP of 15W and support for up to 3200MT / s DDR4. It will also have 15% more bandwidth. This would be a noticeable improvement over Cascade Lake, which has to reduce RAM to 2666MT / s to match Apache Pass.
The slide also shows two versions of the Barlow Pass. One for the Whitley platform and one for the Cedar Island platform, with the Cedar Island platform supporting only up to 2933MT / s. Whitley will support up to 4TB per socket and has four two-channel IMCs.
Whitley will be the primary platform for Cooper Lake and Ice Lake-SP this year, while Cedar Island is targeting 4S and 8S platforms, respectively with 8 and 6 channel memory support.

Lastly, the slide says the Barlow Pass will be produced with a "full blue DIMM heat sink, " which is intended to serve for better identification in the data center.
According to Intel's annual report for 2019, the Barlow Pass is expected to reach PRQ status in 2020. We will keep you informed.
