Intel coffee lake

It has been rumored for months that the new Intel Coffee Lake-S processors will make the leap to the six cores in the mainstream range, a movement that sooner or later had to arrive but that may have been accelerated by the arrival of AMD processors Ryzen with which, finally, Intel has a rival that stands up to him.

Intel Coffee Lake-S makes the leap to 6 cores

If Soft Sandra is usually one of the best sources of information on new processors on the way and has not been an exception with Intel Coffee Lake-S, this architecture is still a rehash of Kaby Lake which in turn is a rehash of Skylake (smell of burnt squid), however, the big news will be the jump to the six cores in the mainstream range and this is something really important since we have been stuck in the four cores for 10 years since the Core 2 Quad arrived in 2007.

Best processors on the market (2017)

The chip in question is an engineering sample made up of 6 cores and 12 threads that operate at base and turbo frequencies of 3.5 GHz and 4.2 GHz respectively. Its characteristics continue with 9 MB of L3 cache that is distributed for all cores, as is tradition, and a 256 KB L2 cache for each core. GT2 integrated graphics are also mentioned.

We continue with support for DDR4-2400 memory in Dual Chanel natively, 16 lanes PCIe, support for DisplayPort 1.2 connectivity , HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. It is not yet known if these processors will use the same Z270 chipset as Kaby Lake although it should be so since the Intel 300 series is, in principle, reserved for Cannonlake.
