With the recently announced Coffee Lake processors and almost no availability in stores, we already have the first leaks of what will be their successors for the new Z390 platform of the mainstream range and its top of the range, the Core i7 9700K.

Core i7 9700K marks the arrival of the 8 cores in the mainstream range

The ninth generation of Intel Core processors will make a significant leap in performance to continue to compete with AMD and protect themselves from future Ryzen 2s. Firstly, the new 9th generation Core i3 will continue to have four cores but with eight threads thanks to HT technology, this means that they will be comparable to the Core i7 of the seventh generation and earlier.

Secondly, the Core i5 also maintains its 6 physical cores but they are reinforced with the HT to offer a total of 12 processing threads, thereby matching the Core i7 of the current eighth generation. Lastly, the Core i7 9700K will make the leap to an impressive configuration of 8 cores and 16 processing threads to match the current Ryzen 7, although its performance will be much better due to a more powerful architecture and much higher operating frequencies.

Best processors on the market (2017)

The downside of all this is that it will be necessary to change the motherboard again since all of them will use the new Z390 chipset and, it is assumed, that they will not be compatible with the current Z370 motherboards although this has not been confirmed. The good thing is that a Core i3 will achieve a performance very similar or equivalent to the Core i7 of the seventh generation and earlier with a price of just over 100 euros in the entry models.

All these are not more rumors for now but it is clear that the arrival of AMD Ryzen has made a Intel that has seen the ears of the wolf, wake up, welcome be the competition.
