The new 18-core 36-thread bug is officially released by Intel. We are talking about the Core i9-9980XE processor, a CPU that we have already seen some benchmarks before.

The Core i9-9980XE Extreme is available from $ 1979

Intel doesn't sit idly by as AMD Threadrippers gobble up more market share in high-end territory. They are now rolling out the Core i9-9980XE, a monstrous new 18-core 36-thread CPU for the X299 chip motherboards. The 'XE' in this case means "Extreme Edition". Which should be obvious from the high number of cores, as well as from the 24.75 MB cache and, of course, from the high price it has.

The processor has a base frequency of 3.0GHz, which can go up to 4.4GHz at full workload. However, with the Turbo Boost Max 3.0 function, you can raise this frequency to 4.5GHz.

Complete Specifications

In terms of TDP, Intel officially puts this chip below 165W. Considering that Intel defines TDP through “average” power, it makes sense that this number seems low, despite the high temperatures exhibited by Intel's HEDT X series. The chip can work normally with a temperature below 84 degrees.

The rest of the features remain the same as those of other X-series CPUs. It is compatible with the X299 chipset and LGA2066 socket motherboards. In addition, it supports up to 128GB DDR4-2666 in four-channel configuration.

How much does the Core i9-9980XE cost?

Intel's suggested retail price is $ 1979, although it is not listed in any retail store at this time.
