Intel has been determined to show that its ninth generation Intel Core processors are better than Ryzen 3000 with some performance tests. Intel's real-world usage performance tests include the most popular applications that are being used by consumers.

Intel compares i9-9900K and i9-9700K with Ryzen 9 3900X

The purpose of these tests was to provide users with real performance on applications that they would use instead of those that target a specific niche. Intel stated that while Cinebench, a popular software where AMD proves its superiority, is widely used by reviewers, only 0.54% of total users have used or run it.

Now Intel has released performance data based on these "real world" applications and the results are good and interesting.

One of the benchmarks that is used is Sysmark, which includes a list of the most used applications, or as Intel likes to call it, real-world applications. So, going straight to the results, Intel compared its 9th generation Core i9 and Core i7 processors to AMD's faster Ryzen 9 3900X. The Intel Core i9-9900K has 8 cores and 16 threads, while the Ryzen 9 3900X has 12 cores and 24 threads.

The 'real world' tests

At Sysmark 2018 the Core i9-9900K was 7% faster, while the Core i7-9700K was 3% faster than AMD's Ryzen 9 3900X. In AAA PC games, the Core i9 was 6%, while the Core i7 was 2% ahead of AMD's option. Performance in intensive testing (SPECrate2017_int_base 1T) produced 9% more single-core performance for the Core i9 and 6% more performance for the Core i7 processor. In web performance (WebXPRT 3 - Edge) the Core i9 was 3% faster while the Core i7 was on par with the Ryzen 9 3900X processor. Finally, we have the Cinebench R20 in multi-core in which the Core i9 offered 0.65x and the Core i7 0.49x of Ryzen 9 3900X CPU performance. The Cinebench test is the only comparison in which the AMD CPU leads, while the Core i9 was the leader in all other points.

For in-game testing, AMD showed that it only leads in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Ashes of the Singularity, while the Core i7-9700K performed better than its rival in multiple titles and was on par with the rest (+/- 3%). But benchmarks weren't the only aspect of performance where Intel compared its CPUs to AMD's.

Lastly, Intel also used a fluid simulation test to show the performance of its IMC (memory controller). In this test, the Core i7-9700K completed the simulation in 15 minutes, while the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X took 17 minutes.

It seems that Intel has not wanted to use tests that benefit too much from the greater number of threads of the Ryzen 9 3900X. The results are to analyze them carefully, but in no case can they be taken as absolute truth, since all companies will try to sell their products in the best possible way. Still, the performance differences shared by Intel add up to an average of 5%. What do you think?
