Intel publishes the list of processors affected by specter and meltdown

Intel has recently unveiled a full list of processors affected by Specter & Meltdown, which is causing such a stir these days. To be honest, I think if it were just from the unaffected processors, the list would be quite shorter.

By the end of next week, the patch that fixes the Specter and Meltdown vulnerability will hit 90% of these CPU models and in the next few weeks will cover 100%.

We know that the most affected by this problem are servers equipped with Intel architecture, we are going that almost all online services are being affected by this problem. Google, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon have come out to declare that this would not affect performance, but that is not what Epic Games thinks.

Epic Games are the creators of Fortnite, a game very similar to PUBG (PlayersUnknown Battlegrounds) that depends on servers to function, since the game hosts online games.

Epic denounces that the patch affects the performance of its servers

Epic released a graph showing how its servers worked before and after applying the security patch. As can be seen, the CPU utilization shot up from 25% to almost 60%, affecting the overall performance of the servers, and therefore, of the online games.

This could also be happening in other online games, but for the moment, only Epic Games has reported this issue. We will see how this whole issue evolves, but Intel is not coming out of this well and its credibility is increasingly questioned.
