The first samples of Intel's Tiger Lake processors arriving next year have been seen in the UserBenchmark database. This time we have seen a Tiger Lake 4 core 8 core chip with amazing power.

Tiger Lake-U processors to come out in 2020

Intel's Tiger Lake family was officially announced during the 2019 Investor Meeting. Intel demonstrated that Tiger Lake CPUs would lead to a new CPU core architecture known as Willow Cove. Willow Cove cores would be designed using a refined 10nm process node and would offer architectural improvements with much better performance and clocks than Ice Lake (Sunny Cove based) processors.

Two entries from a mysterious Tiger Lake CPU have appeared in the UserBenchmark database along with some performance figures. Both CPUs are part of the Tiger Lake-U family that includes 15-28W chips. Both processors are configured in a 4-core, 8-wire design, with clock speeds of 1.2 GHz base and 3.6 GHz boost. Since the launch is a year away, these clock speeds don't seem definitive.

Performance in UserBenchmark

When it comes to performance numbers, the processor has a mono-core score of 146 points, a 2-core score of 286 points, and a 4-core score of 551 points. Using all 8 threads you get a score of 701 points which is adjusted for heavy workloads. If we compare these numbers with a Core i7-8700K that has a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a boost clock of 4.5 GHz, the 1 core score is 140, the 2 core score is 274 and the 4 core score is 544.

Comparison chart

CPU Name CPU Avg Clock 1-core score 2-core score 4-core score 8-core score
Intel Tiger Lake-U 4 Core / 8 Thread Early Sample 3.60 GHz 146 286 551 701
Intel Core i9-9900K (8 Core / 16 Thread) 4.95 GHz 154 309 615 1194
Intel Core i7-8700K (6 Core / 12 Thread) 4.50 GHz 140 274 544 979
Intel Core i7-8565U (4 Core / 8 Thread) 4.00 GHz 132 270 501 616
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (12 Core / 24 Thread) 4.25 GHz 140 277 553 1092
AMD Ryzen 7 3750H (4 Core / 8 Thread) 3.50 GHz 118 216 394 591
AMD Ryzen 7 3700U (4 Core / 8 Thread) 3.25 GHz 110 204 365 547

Above we can see a comparison with other processors. There seems to be a big increase in IPC performance coming. We will keep you informed.
