At CES 2020 Intel demonstrated its discrete DG1 graphics based on the Xe architecture for the first time. For a brief demonstration of a laptop a graphics card known as DG1 was used.

The device used for the demo is not just a laptop, but an 'ultra-thin' one. A similar graphics processor (in terms of specs) is expected to be added inside the Tiger Lake processors, which was also demonstrated during the event.

The demo did not include specifications and performance comparisons, in fact, it was quite brief, but if the GPU seems to be already working at full capacity. On the stage the laptop was seen running a video game, more specifically Destiny 2.

Intel DG1 is currently expected to have 96 execution units, which should give about 768 shading units.

Intel Xe is the first major effort by Intel to offer a truly powerful graphics card or GPU for the consumer market from Raja Koduri exAMD. Although we should not expect it to compete against AMD or Nvidia options in the high-end market, at least not in the short term.

Intel:

Intel Vice President of Graphics and Software Architecture Lisa Pearce gave insight into the advancements of the new Intel Xe graphics architecture, which will provide tremendous performance improvements at Tiger Lake, and presented a preview of Intel's first discrete GPU based in Xe, called "DG1".

In 2020 we will have many news about this Intel GPU. We will keep you informed.
