This product has not been assigned by any brand or store. And since we have bought it as a productivity supplement in our work, we have thought it convenient to do the analysis so that you have our impressions.

iPad 2019 technical characteristics

Unboxing

We find a very minimalist packaging by Apple. A white and very compact box, which includes our new iPad 2019 inside. On its cover we see in 1: 1 scale the thickness and dimensions of the iPad.

While on the back it indicates on a central sticker that it is the Wifi version with 32 GB of storage (to do the review we did not need anything else) and that we are in front of the 7th generation (the most recent one today)).

Once we open the box we will come across the following elements:

So this is what we find in the box, a simple and orderly presentation, the usual thing in Apple in all its models.

Exterior design, at the height of a high-end

As expected, Apple is committed to a simple exterior design. Aesthetically little has changed compared to the 2018 version. The tablet is made of metal, specifically an aluminum alloy, on the sides and the rear.

It is a team that feels very good in our hands, this is thanks to the touch of the material (slightly rough) and its size of 10 inches.

It has rounded edges and a small bezel throughout its screen. In addition, the metal is not completely smooth, but has a minimally rough surface to improve this grip. As usual at Apple, it offers us the possibility of choosing this product in three different colors: gold, space gray (our model) and silver.

The distribution of the elements in the back is very simple, just a camera in the upper left area (seen from the front) with no type of flash or anything like that. This rear area is completely flat, and we only see the “little bitten apple” in relief.

In the lower area of ​​this part, it indicates that it has been designed in California, that it is made in China and that it is the A2197 model. The good thing about having this flat surface, is that if we put it on the table it does not wobble like the iPhone.

The full measurements that the 2019 iPad gives us are 250.6 mm wide, 172.1 mm high and 7.5 mm thick, which is a little wider and taller than last year's version. And it is that in this model we have a 10.2-inch screen instead of the 9.7 inches of the 2018 model . Regarding the weight, we have a total of 483 grams, which being a tablet of this size, is the standard weight and is very comfortable when we use it daily.

At the top we only have the power button and lock of the tablet. If it is the first time you have an Apple tablet, it is as simple as pressing and holding a few seconds to turn on the system or pressing several seconds to turn it off (with prior notice from the operating system). On the other side of the upper area we have a 3.5 minijack connector to connect headphones.

Already located in the right side area we have the volume up and down buttons. In case of acquiring the Cellullar version (the one with 4G LTE), we will have the tray to connect a NanoSIM, in our case we have chosen the Wifi only version.

On the other hand, in the left area we find the " Smart Connector " that serves to connect the official keyboard for iPad. Already in the lower area, we have the lightning connector and two stereo speaker outputs.

Screen: A little larger and with excellent definition.

We have been very pleasantly surprised by this screen. As we have already mentioned, it has a 10.2-inch panel that will give us a resolution of 2, 160 by 1, 620 pixels with a density of 264 pixels.

The screen is retina and has IPS technology and a brightness of 500 nits. It has an oleophobic anti- fingerprint cover and is compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil. It's not up to the level of the laminated screens of the iPad Air 2019 or the iPad PRO of 2018, but the result is outstanding for watching movies, browsing, answering emails, social networks and even drawing .

We did not like the generous frames at all. We believe that at present we should have an 80% minimum screen, these 73% are very scarce for us.

If you are an amateur in drawing or want to take notes, the screen is very good. Under the glass we have an "air layer" until we reach the panel, this means that when we use the Apple Pencil we will notice a great difference compared to a laminated screen. But as I say, it can survive perfectly, and if you have not touched a higher-end iPad in the last two years, I can assure you that you will enjoy using the pencil with the 2019 iPad.

If you combine the 2019 iPad and the first generation Apple Pencil you have an ideal combo to take notes in the University or Higher Cycles.

Cameras

In the cameras section we did not find any significant improvement. Its function is very clear: take photos to "scan" with PDFelement and get us out of a hurry. It has an 8 Mpx main camera, with a CMOS sensor and a 2.4 focal length. It is capable of recording at 120 fps and the autofocus is good enough to be on a tablet.

We find the 12-megapixel and focal 2.2 camera a success for video conferencing with Skype and corporate programs. But we would never see it as a super important function when choosing a tablet. Years ago, if it was common to see users taking pictures with their tablet, but now… with the excellent sensors on our smartphones, what is the point?

Hardware: Apple A10 and fair performance

When choosing an Apple tablet, we must be very clear what use we want to give it, choosing the most basic model implies having the least powerful processor. In this case we have an Apple A10 64-bit CPU and four cores (Two high-performance and others two low-impact) at 2.4 GHz. The graphic core is signed by PowerVR 7XT Plus, more than enough to play almost all Apple Arcade games and major titles. Obviously, with the A12 and A12X processor we would have much better performance.

Although we are with the most modest processor of the current Apple iPad. The A10 is perfectly suited for gaming, video viewing, and everyday use. Although we can not ask for the same performance as an iPad PRO.

As far as RAM is concerned, we have a total of 3 GB LPDDR4X, along with a 32 GB internal storage capacity with no possibility of expansion. In the event that you want more storage, we recommend you choose the 128 GB option… But we believe that before choosing that option, it is recommended to purchase the iPad Air 2019: better screen (it is laminated), much more powerful, better battery and with more storage as standard.

We have always performed a performance test on AnTuTu Benchmark and GeekBenchk to see how far it can go. The performance is like a mid-range tablet from the competition, but the user experience is fantastic. Right now we see it as an indispensable gagdet in our daily use.

Connectivity on iPad 2019

In this section we have to be clear that there are two models: the basic one with Wifi connection and a second model with LTE + Wifi support, the one called Celullar. This version (not the one we have) offers LTE connectivity: UMTS / HSPA / HSPA + / DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1, 700 / 2, 100, 1, 900 and 2, 100 MHz) and GSM / EDGE (850, 900, 1, 800 and 1, 900 MHz), SIM card, install a nanoSIM (compatible with Apple SIM) or the possibility of configuring an eSIM.

To complement the Wifi / 4G LTE connectivity, it incorporates A-GPS, GPS and GLONASS sensors for positioning and geolocation, although we do not have NFC.

We really liked how the Touch ID of the iPad 2019 works. It would be nice if it incorporated easy recognition, but we only have it in the top-of-the-range version of the iPad.

Autonomy

As usual on iPads, this 2019 version has an 8827 mAh battery with a 10W charge (5V at 2A), at least that is the capacity of the charger that is available. The brand promises in its specifications a duration of 10 hours of continuous use surfing the Internet via Wifi and the Celullar lasts up to 9 hours.

According to our tests we have been able to verify that the battery lasts about 9 - 10 days with normal use. If you want to make an intensive use it will last you about 4 or 5 days. Of course, everything will depend a lot on the use you give it. What is clear is that its autonomy is excellent.

Native iPadOS operating system on iPad 2019

It is our first experience with an iPad and we are not very used to this operating system, but after three weeks I think we have been quite a lot to it, we have documented a lot and we have messed around a lot all this time.

The main news that we find is the incorporation of the new iPadOS operating system natively. Apple has decided to further tighten the gap between Macbook notebook and iPad. The possibility of using the multiscreen with just a gesture is great. Now we can review a web page or a YouTube channel, and on the other 50% of the screen write an article or send a friend to chat.

Very interesting to be able to look at all the spaces you have open by touching the dock, use the Over slider (all our favorite apps at hand) or have your widgets anchored on the main screen, it makes it an all-terrain table.

About the fixed Widget area, it is very clear to us that we should only use a desktop. If we organize the applications by boxes, we leave the essential ones out and use the widget with valuable information. Does this system become the most productive of all?

Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil must buy on iPad 2019

If you have an iPad and want to replace your laptop, buying the official Apple keyboard: Smart Keyboard is almost essential. In this basic iPad we can install it thanks to the incorporation of the Smart Connector connection .

It is comfortable when we write, it weighs nothing and serves as a cover. Its big problem is the price… Those 179 euros are not justified at all, a pity that Logitech has not yet launched its Slim Folio for the 7th generation (it is currently under reservation). But if it is more justifiable those € 105 versus the almost € 180 of the official Apple. This logitech features backlighting, shortcuts, and a touch more like a conventional keyboard. Without a doubt, when it is available, it will be one of the fixed purchases of every owner of this iPad.

If they seem expensive options, can you always connect a keyboard and a mouse via Bluetooth?

We currently have two generations of Apple Pencil. Only the first generation of Apple Pencil is supported. Its autonomy is improvable, but the writing sensations are fantastic. It really seems that you are writing on paper, the possibilities offered by applications like GoodNotes or Notabilty are incredible.

I really would not have bought an iPad without the stylus, as it seems to me a fundamental accessory to satisfy the experience of use. I think it is worth every euro it costs. Without a doubt, a purchase that I do not regret making.

Final words and conclusion about iPad 2019

It is time to value the iPad 2019. We have a 10.2 ″ inch tablet with a FHD 2160 x (1620 px) resolution, an Apple A10 Fusion processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32/128 GB of RAM, the possibility of choosing the option with LTE and natively integrating iPad OS.

Is it really worth buying an iPad? If you want to use it to study, make your work easier or as a support for your computer, yes, we think it is worth it . If you just want to surf the internet or watch a movie on Netflix, we thought that there are cheaper options on Android tablets.

If we had to go to university and we needed a portable and light equipment, we would have clear that we would use an iPad before a laptop. Reasons? Portability (less than half a kilo), excellent screen, possibility of taking notes quickly, possibility of installing a keyboard and / or mouse via BT, breadth of app for productivity and office automation. In addition, it is one of the most powerful tablets on the market (taking into account the power offered by the Apple A10) for its price and its great autonomy.

The most important criticism of this tablet is the price of its official accessories. The pencil costs 100 euros , although there are compatible for 20 or 50 euros, and the official keyboard costs 180 euros. If we choose to buy both, we have 70% of the value of the tablet . Something unjustifiable for complementary accessories.

Currently we can buy with a match price of 370 euros in the Apple store or in the main online stores in gold, space gray and silver. For us, a 100% recommended purchase if you are clear about your uses. If you know that those 32 GB of storage are going to be short, my advice is to opt for the Apple Air 2019 of 64 GB for the price difference, in addition to having a better screen (it is laminated, I will not get tired of repeating it: Q) and the Apple A12X Fusion processor.
