Professional Review has had access to the new Razer Kraken 2019, a third generation headset and successor to the highly successful Razer Kraken Pro V2. In fact, it has a design very similar to this one in color and structure with improved and more balanced 50mm diaphragms and also a microphone with greater sensitivity and noise suppression. The analogue connection is also maintained to achieve pure, high-quality stereo sound.

Unboxing and design

Razer leaves formalisms and discretion aside to present this Razer Kraken 2019, a third generation of its quintessential gaming helmets. This headset comes very well stored in a thick cardboard box with the typical colors of the brand, black and a powerful phosphor green ideal for being seen in the dark.

Front and rear panel features photos of this daring headset, with a design virtually the same as the Kraken Pro V2. Thick and comfortable canopies and a very comfortable and thick simple headband system. In addition, on the back we will find some other information about the elements that make up the headphones.

We open the box and we find an exquisite support and presentation of these helmets. Perfectly accommodated in a rigid plastic mold with the cable perfectly fixed and stored behind a cardboard next to the user guide and an extension cable that divides the four-pole 3.5mm Jack connector into two different ones to separate audio and microphone if we wish so. Very useful and necessary for connection on the back panel of our motherboard.

Here we see the complete set of these Razer Kraken 2019, a headset that lowers its cost compared to the Pro V2 and improves in some aspects to the previous version, such as its microphone or the more contained sensitivity of the transducers. Although always maintaining the correct design and good ear buds.

Razer Kraken 2019 is a headset of good dimensions and a weight of only 322 grams that is designed to offer very good comfort after long hours of use in games or listening to music. For the construction of the helmets, plastic has been used for the entire outer cover and underneath an aluminum chassis that allows us this very low weight.

As for colors, as we see it, black and green remain as the brand's favorites, although in this case we will also have a Quartz Pink Edition version and a console version in black and blue reflections.

The headband of this new generation of the Kraken remains unchanged, being a single bridge and completely covered with a thick and firm sponge in two-tone colors. On the inside we have some highly breathable textile materials, and on the outside, we finished in polyurethane (synthetic leather) in green with a very soft and elegant touch, while being aggressive with these colors.

On top of this headband we have the brand's name represented in large black letters.

Being a single bridge headset, Razer Kraken has an adaptation mechanism based on the extension of the two canopy support plates. In them we even have represented the extension length in centimeters. In total we can extend the semicircle by 5 cm on each side, enough for practically all users.

The range and hold are really good, and at no time have we noticed too much pressure on the ears. They also do not fall in sudden movements, as is the case with heavier and more problematic wireless or dual-bridge equipment. A job well done should always be kept, so outstanding for Razer.

We see here more in detail the ear pads, which have the same design as practically all the brand's series of headphones, round and with a die-cut metal grille on the front area. These canopies are attached to the aluminum chassis by means of two enclaves on the sides, which will allow us some movement on their axis for a better fit. But at no time can we rotate them with respect to the axis of the diadem.

Clearly it is a headset with a circumaural design in which we have very thick cushions finished in synthetic leather on the side and textile mesh in the contact area to provide good breathability. Inside we have a layer of cooling gel and visco-elastic foam of considerable thickness.

It presents a light oval, which gives us interior dimensions of 54 x 65 mm. During the hours that we have worn them they are really comfortable, they do not give heat and also the ear never hits the internal hard zone, which is also finished with a textile mesh.

Internal features and benefits

Inside these domes totally closed on their outer face, there are two 50 mm diameter drives with a power of 30 mW built with neodymium magnets. They will be able to provide us with a frequency response of between 12 Hz and 28 kHz, much wider than our audible spectrum. They have an impedance of 32 Ω at 1 kHz and a sensitivity of 109 dB.

The microphone, for its part, is located in the left canopy as usual and is a retractable type with a completely flexible and ergonomic rod. In this headset we do not have a Pop filter for installation in the head.

This microphone has been improved with respect to the previous version, to provide us with a frequency response of between 100 Hz and 10 kHz, but with a higher sensitivity of -45 ± 3 dB and also a higher signal-to-noise ratio, being greater than 60 dB. The uptake pattern remains the same, one-way ECM.

You may have also noticed that we are dealing with a Razer Kraken with wired analog connectivity, something that is always the first choice for professional gamers. This is because the sound signal will come directly from the sound card of our motherboard, which in almost all occasions will be much better than the DAC that the USB headphones incorporate and the audio filter control of the software.

Basically, we will have a 1.3 m fixed cable from the headset, which ends in a 4-pole Jack connector compatible with Smartphone and all kinds of devices. But we will also have the option of adding an audio / micro splitter. Sound control is located on the main cable, using a potentiometer wheel for sound and a mute button for the microphone.

Sound experience and conclusion about Razer Kraken 2019

We have been testing this headset for several days both in games and for listening to music at 320 Kbps and of course we have carried out tests with the microphone. We must say that it is a headset with outstanding sound quality, we do not need any software or simulated surround sound to enjoy a clean and very balanced stereo sound in midtones, bass and treble.

Razer headsets have always been characterized by their strong bass, even excessive in many cases. But this has been corrected perfectly in this 2019 Razer Kraken. A strong sound, and very clear at very high volumes without breaking either bass or treble. We should only mention one small drawback, and that is that the fact of having a totally closed dome on the outside gives a small bottling effect to the sound at low volumes.

Regarding the microphone, its operation is more or less similar to other equipment of the brand, its frequency response is ultimately the same and both treble and bass will have the natural limit of their frequency range. What we did notice is a fairly clean voice recording in general, and at somewhat higher volumes without distortion, so good level.

As for design and comfort, it is practically the same as the Kraken Pro V2, they are practically the same headphones in design, weight and placement. Before, they were very comfortable and this continues in this new generation. The insulation provided by the canopies is very good without ever tightening and providing a good fit, simple, but effective.

Razer Kraken 2019 will be available on the market from March 15 for a price of 79.99 euros in the Europe area, being the same cost as in the America area. Without a doubt they maintain the high level of their predecessors with micro and drives improved in sensations and highly recommended for gaming.
