Lovers of ITX boxes will know perfectly well that finding a good graphics card and getting it into your small box is not an easy task. KFA2 wants to make life easier for us and has launched the new KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini with 8GB of GDDR5 memory and a super compact format. You want to know more? Don't miss our review!

We thank KFA2 for trusting the product for their analysis. Here we go!

KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini technical characteristics

Design and unboxing

KFA2 presents us in a cardboard box for the KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini. The exact model, a burgundy background and its compatibility with DirectX 12, ANSEL, VRWorks and GameWorks technology are screen printed on its cover.

While in the rear area all the most important technical specifications and the main novelties of this small graphics card.

Once we open the graphics card we find a classic bundle:

  • KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini Brochures Quick Guide

The KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini it uses the Pascal GP104-200 chip slightly cut in features. This core It is manufactured in 16 nm FinFET and has a reduced size of only 314 mm2 that demonstrates the great concentrated power that the Nvidia Pascal architecture is capable of offering. It is a chip with 7.2 billion transistors. It has 1, 920 CUDA cores along with 120 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The core works with base specifications of 1518 MHz and with Boost up to 1708 MHz with frequencies that have nothing to envy to any graphics card with a much larger format.

It comes with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory at a maximum frequency in its 8, 000 MHz overclocked mode and with a 256-bit interface to offer a maximum bandwidth of 266 GB / s. A few more than enough figures for a graphics card that will be able to handle most of the games on the market at 4K resolution and with very remarkable levels of detail. In the previous image you can see a rear view of the backplate of the graphics card.

The chosen mini heatsink has two powerful 80mm fans and although it does not incorporate passive operation, that is, fans stopped when it is at rest (fanless), it promises a good sound. We will have to see this!

As usual in these cases, the KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini has a dual expansion slot design. So we will have no problem installing it in relatively very small boxes. Specifically we have measures of 195 x 130 x 41.5 mm and a very light weight.

Although it is quite compact, that does not mean that it does not allow you to install a twin in its SLI connector for the new SLI HB bridge. It is quite interesting for those high-end microATX boards and you do not want to lose the power of two graphics cards, although we always recommend a more powerful GPU due to the little optimization in this system.

Finally we detail the rear connections composed of:

  • 2 DVI connections1 Displayport1 connection HDMI connection

PCB and internal components

To remove the heatsink we must remove a total of four screws located on the chip. As we can see the heatsink has thermaldpads in the memories and the VRM. The base is nickel-plated copper and supported by 3 very thick heatpipes.

The KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini features a custom PCB with 4 + 1 power phases: one for the memories and four for the core. As usual, it incorporates first-class components. The PCB looks very well designed, one of the best in this format, and excellent solders. Really, few graphics with this size are so well built.

For benchmarks we will use the following titles:

  • 3DMark Fire Strike normal.3DMark Fire Strike version 4K.Heaven 4.0.Doom 4.Overwatch.Tomb Raider.Battlefield 4.

All tests have been passed with the filters to the maximum unless we indicate otherwise. In order to have adequate performance, we have carried out three types of tests: the first is the most common at Full HD 1920 x 1080, the second resolution is making the leap to 2K or 1440P (2560 x 1440P) gamers and the most enthusiastic with 4K (3840 x 2160). The operating system we have used has been Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and the latest drivers available from the Nvidia website.

What are we looking for in the tests?

First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:

FRAMES BY SECONDS

Frames for Seconds. (FPS)

Gameplay

Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 - 40 FPS Playable
40 - 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent

Synthetic benchmarks

As always we have passed the three most important tests in synthetic benchmarks: normal 3DMARK, its 4K version and the Heaven version.

Game Testing

We have decided to make the leap to checking various games manually. The reason? Very simple, we want to give a much more realistic vision and cover tests with current games. Since we make an effort, it is consistent with the level of the website and that of our readers.

Overclock and first impressions

Note: Remember that overclocking or manipulation carries a risk, we and any manufacturer are not responsible for improper use, use the head and always do so at your own risk.

Although it is a graphics card of small dimensions it has allowed us to tighten its frequencies a little +100 MHz. Although the improvement has been minimal, but at least we know how far a card of these dimensions can reach (about 2 GHz approximately).

In 3DMARK FireStrike we have gone from obtaining 17880 in Graphics Score to 18331 points. The heatsink, although it is very efficient but due to its size it has quite a limitation.

Temperature and consumption

Consumption lives up to expectations set at 58 W idle and 229 W at full performance. All this playing with an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor and air dissipation. It's great!

Important: The consumption is of the complete equipment.

The temperatures of the KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini are really good, we have obtained 29ºC and it reaches a maximum of 70ºC playing at maximum power.

Final words and conclusion about KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini

The KFA2 GTX 1070 Mini is one of the best itx graphics card options of the moment. Its compact design, low noise and above all its excellent construction materials offer us an ideal option for compact equipment.

In our tests we have been able to verify that it moves perfectly in Full HD, 2K and 4K resolutions without any problem. Obviously in 4K fluid moves several games, but we will not have the same experience as an 11GB GTX 1080 Ti.

On the power it has a single 8-pin connector and KFA2 recommends us to use a 500W power supply. As we have seen in our tests, we see that the use of this size of PSU is more than correct if it is of quality.

We recommend reading the best graphics cards on the market.

Its current price in stores is 399 euros (Updated). There is not much availability nationwide, but in just under 1 week you should have it. A 100% recommended product.
