Kfa2 rtx 2070 super work the frames edition review in Spanish

Table of contents:

Anonim

After quite a few introductions in the mid-range, we return to the high-end with this KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition card. It is the highest performing version of this assembler with a very aggressive look, packed with RGB lighting and a powerful triple fan heatsink and 3 slot thickness.

We already know that this GPU is based on the RTX 2080 chipset, although with 2560 CUDA cores, this time they will be able to work at 1830 MHz with their 1-Click OC function and a 7 + 2 phase VRM DrMOS that will give us good manual overclocking capability. Will the 2070 Super have better features? We will see it right now!

As always, we thank KFA2 for trusting us by lending us this graphics card for analysis.

KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition technical features

Unboxing

We started this analysis of the KFA2 RTX 2070 Super WTFE with Unboxing, and this card has come to us in a box of the more or less standard size that is nothing more than a cover that stores a second box inside, this one of rigid cardboard that will store the graphics card. This first cover offers us photos of the card and its highlights on the back, let's see its main characteristics.

We get into the next box, the one that brings us the GPU inside and that only asks us "what is our game", of course it must be one where you can squeeze this card as it deserves. It comes in an antistatic bag and in turn put into a high-density polyethylene foam mold.

In this case the bundle contains the following elements:

  • KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Graphics Card Installation Guide 2x PCIe adapters - MOLEX

It is certainly not much, but at least they have had the detail of including these adapters to MOLEX, since many users do not have dual-output PCIe power supplies. In this way we will be able to use those MOLEX that currently are almost useless. Very well thought out gentlemen of KFA2

Exterior design

This KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition is a more frequent variant on the GPU and a more powerful heatsink than the assembler already had, so it should offer a slight improvement in performance.

But we will see this a little later, now let's focus on the design that is not anything. In this model we find a gigantic heatsink with a triple fan system that gives us quite large measurements and not suitable for many chassis. They will be 328 mm long, 150 mm wide and 53 mm thick, thus occupying 3 expansion slots and plenty of space in modest chassis. At least it will guarantee superior cooling and brutal aesthetics.

And it is that we have a very striking casing in black, gray and blue details, with very aggressive lines as we see in the image. In the visible area for the user, an aluminum plate with a polished edge has also been installed and integrated on the housing to give even more exclusivity to the design, which we will see later with all the lighting activated.

Regarding the heatsink, or rather the fans, we have a triple configuration with a diameter of 90 mm in all of them. The one in the center gives the feeling of being bigger because a plastic ring has been installed that will reflect the lighting to improve aesthetics. In all three we will have lighting, so their blades are transparent. They also have a strange design with angle blades that are supposed to decrease the sound of the air.

In this KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition we will of course have a 0 dB system as in other manufacturers, which we can manage through the Xtreme Tuner software that we will see later. In any case, it is a very quiet system, since in the idle state they will work at very low revolutions due to its good heatsink.

Now we go to the side areas, to see that the housing reaches approximately half of the heatsink, leaving all the finned free to expel the hot air. In the central area we see the extension of this integrated aluminum plate on the “Work the Frames” specification of this card. Of course it also has lighting. Finally, the front area is completely covered with the same upper casing, in fact we will have to remove two screws that join the two plastics.

Something that seems quite curious to us is that the backplate of this graphics card is built in ABS plastic instead of aluminum, but it is for good reason, and that is that between the two boards that compose it it has integrated RGB lighting… too. It is a plate that completely closes the PCB on the back and is polished and finished with matte black paint. It is quite thick and rigid, but of course, it does not offer the same protection as that of aluminum.

Ports and power connections

We now proceed to the back of the KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition to see its various video connections. In addition to them we will see others of interest such as power and fans. Back we will have:

  • 1x HDMI 2.0b3x DisplayPort 1.4

Once again the 4 standard video ports on most graphics cards, which we see perfect. As we always remember the capacity of each connector: the HDMI port supports a 4K @ 60 Hz resolution, while DisplayPort will give us a maximum resolution of 8K at 60 FPS, while in 4K we will reach 165 Hz or 4K @ 60 FPS 30 bits deep. In either case, it offers support with Nvidia G-Sync and FreeSync.

Because it is essentially a trimmed 2080 we also have an NVLink multiGPU interface, so we can place it to work in parallel with another RTX 2070 Super. The communication interface is maintained in the Nvidia as PCIe 3.0 x16, being perfectly compatible with PCIe 4.0 boards.

As for the power, we have in the side area a double 6-pin and 8-pin connector to satisfy the consumption of the KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition, which will be about 220W without manual overclocking. For this, a 7 + 2 phase VRM of DrMOS power has been installed, which we will see later on to where they can raise the frequency of memories and chipset in our hands.

We are not finished yet, because integrated in the PCB we have a double 4-pin connector for the card's lighting system and a third 6-pin connector (5 operational) for the fans. In this case we can manage the central independently of the two sides, but not all three independently.

Xtreme Tuner Software

With this software we can activate, among other things, the 1-click OC function that the card has. In any case, we think that it is not the most interesting that it can offer us, since it is a complete program with which we can manage the lighting of the card.

In fact, it has a fairly complete system with which to manage the lighting of the backplate and each of the fans independently, which gives us a lot of play when it comes to customizing the entire card.

Another of the most necessary functions is overclocking, which in this case is very similar, if not the same as other programs such as EVGA Precision, Gigabyte Engine or Asus GPU Tweak 2. Likewise, we can manage the performance of the fans, placing the profile that we deem appropriate, for example in cases of manual overclocking.

KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition PCB, Interior and Hardware

Next we go inside the KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition to see in more detail its huge heatsink and the construction of the PCB. For this we have a total of 8 screws, 6 in the backplate area and the two that join the casings at the end.

Heatsink

We start with the heatsink, which offers us a double aluminum block system with a dense transversal fin that will be bathed by the axial flow of the three fans. The one located in the center-right area in the image will be the one that captures the heat of the chipset and the 8 GDDR6 memory chips.

For this we have a large aluminum cold plate with a polished copper central core provided with a metal-based gray thermal paste. With this we will cool the central chip, while silicone thermal pads will take care of the memory chips.

After this cold plate we have the most important, no less than 6 nickel-plated copper heatpipes that transfer the heat to the second block finned by 4 tubes. Two of them curve over themselves towards the main block to take advantage of all the space. Finally, the edge of the second block has a stepped plate with silicone thermal pads to cool the MOSFETS and Chokes of the VRM.

GPU Features

The PCB of this KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition has a considerable extension, and only about 3 cm at the end are only occupied by the heatsink. We see for example a large free space around the chipset only occupied by the tracks that direct the data to the connection interface and between chipset and memories.

The power system consists of 7 power phases for the GPU and two more for the memories. For this, MOSFETS DrMOS and solid chokes have been used that support all the energy that the set needs. However in other cases we have seen 8 + 2 configurations, for example in the MSI, we will see later how it behaves.

We continue with the chipset this KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition graphics card, which is a variant of the TU104. This was installed in the previous discontinued RTX 2080 models, although a little cut in cores and frequency to adjust its performance. In this case, KFA2 has made a clock configuration of 1605 MHz of base frequency, reaching up to 1815 MHz in gaming mode. But with the brand's 1-Click OC Clock system we can go up to 1830 MHz in automatic OC mode.

Let's remember that inside there are a total of 2560 CUDA Cores, 320 Tensor and 40 RT to give a performance of 64 ROPs and 184 TMUs. The cache memory has been increased to 2560 KB in L1 and 4096 in L2, so that Ray Tracing and DLSS work perfectly using hardware. The TDP of this GPU amounts to 215W, which is why it has been used with such a forceful heatsink.

The memory configuration has remained the same as the RTX 2080, with 8 GB GDDR6 working at 14 Gbps with an effective frequency of 7000 MHz and which are raised to 14000 MHz (14 Gbps) by the type of DDR architecture, which allow a great overclocking as we'll see later. We have a 256-bit bus at a speed of no less than 448 GB / s, although the PCIe 3.0 bus has been maintained, more than enough for current graphics cards.

Test bench and performance

We are going to carry out our battery of performance tests that include synthetic tests or benchmarks and tests directly with the games that we normally use in our analyzes. The test bench consists of the following elements:

TESTING BENCH

Processor:

Intel Core i9-9900K

Base plate:

Asus Maximus XI Formula

Memory:

T-Force Vulkan 3200 MHz

Heatsink

Corsair H100i Platinum SE

HDD

ADATA SU750

Graphic card

KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition

Power supply

Cooler Master V850 Gold

All the tests we have carried out with the filters as they come in the configuration of each program and game. The tests consist of tests that run in various resolutions, namely Full HD 2K and 4K, and also to test performance in Ray Tracing in the case of the Port Royal test. We have run all of them on the Windows 10 Pro operating system in its 1909 version with the latest version drivers available for this graphics card being 441.66, downloaded as not from the official Nvidia site

What are we looking for in these tests?

First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To slightly differentiate the quality, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS based on the quantity we get in each game and resolution.

FRAMES PER SECOND
Frames Per Second (FPS) Gameplay
Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 ~ 40 FPS Playable
40 ~ 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent
Greater than 144 FPS E-sports level

Benchmarks and synthetic tests

First, let's look at the results of the synthetic tests performed on the MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X, which are made up of the following titles:

  • 3DMark Fire Strike normal3DMark Fire Strike UltraTime SpyPort Royal (RT) VRMARK

Game testing

The tests will be carried out at the three most used resolutions in gaming, Full HD (1920 x 1080p), QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440p) and UHD or 4K (3840 x 2160p). In this way, we will have a complete range of results to be able to compare them with other GPUs with close benefits. For each of the games, we have maintained the automatic settings selected in each and for each resolution, which will consist of the following:

  • Final Fantasy XV, standard, TAA, DirectX 11 DOOM, Ultra, TAA, Open GL 4.5 Deus EX Mankind Divided, Alto, Anisotropico x4, DirectX 11 Far Cry 5, Alto, TAA, DirectX 12 Metro Exodus, Alto, Anisotropico x16, DirectX 12 (without RT) Shadow of the Tomb Rider, Alto, TAA + Anisotropic x4, DirectX 12 (without DLSS) Control, Alto, Ray Tracing Alto + DLSS @ 1920x1080p, DirectX 12 Gears 5, Alto, DirectX 12

As for gaming performance, it is practically identical to the competition, in short, the working frequency is similar and the chip the same. We have also tested the difference between this 1 Click OC function and the gaming mode that only varies 15 MHz and obviously the results are almost identical. It only varies in decimals, so we continue with overclocking.

Overclocking

We now continue with the overclocking test of this KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition, in which we have used the EVGA Precision X1 software to raise the memory clock and chipset. We will evaluate performance with Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Fire Strike.

And this time its overclocking capacity has been spectacular, the silicon lottery has been on our side, and we have been able to increase the GPU clock by 160 MHz and the 900 MHz memories in a completely stable way. In fact, it has allowed us to tighten it to 190/1200 MHz, but we have already experienced stability problems, so we take the above as good.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Stock @ Overclock
1920 x 1080 (Full HD) 124 FPS 133 FPS
2560 x 1440 (WQHD) 92 FPS 100 FPS
3840 x 2160 (4K) 52 FPS 56 FPS
3DMark Fire Strike Stock @ Overclock
Graphics Score 25, 700 27, 175
Physics Score 23, 972 24, 070
Combined 22, 439 23, 189

With this frequency increase we have improved 9 FPS in Full HD, 8 FPS in 2K and 4 FPS in 4K, making it a considerable increase and worthwhile at specific times for competitive games on LAN.

In addition, both VRM and cooling have behaved perfectly, since with the fans at just over 60% we have temperatures of 50-60⁰C under stress with FurMark.

Temperatures and consumption

In addition to measuring both its temperature with the HWiNFO program by stressing the GPU with FurMark, we have also simultaneously measured the power consumption of the entire equipment, to see how this affects the consumption of the reference version.

We have taken these temperatures under stress with the automatic ventilation profile, in which the fan system has been quite low in revolutions most of the time. Only reached 62 ⁰C on average and 64 ⁰C in point peaks, these are very good values. You can see the good quality of the heatsink and those 6 heatpipes that capture and distribute the heat through the large aluminum block.

Final words and conclusion about KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition

We have already commented in other analyzes that this RTX 2070 Super seems to us to be one of the best cards in relation to performance / price, since we are practically at the level of an RTX 2080 for a price similar to that of the previous 2070.

What KFA2 proposes to us is a card almost reached the maximum in every way. As is its massive triple fan heatsink which is packed with software customizable RGB lighting. With a very good quality casing, and a reason to have a plastic backplate, and that is that we also have enough lighting.

The fan system forms a card that occupies 3 slots for outstanding performance and very quiet. Unless we opt for it, these fans will never turn to the maximum, since temperatures almost never exceed 65 ⁰C. We also have a 0dB system and management from Xtreme Tuner.

We recommend reading the best graphics cards on the market

The performance of this card in games guarantees us in most games a rate of 90-100 FPS in 2K resolution, with CPU of 6 or more cores and in high quality. Likewise , 120 Hz is exceeded without problem in Full HD and 50 FPS in 4K, making it ideal for competitive gaming. A small advantage for thicker budgets is that it supports NVLink, without having to go to the 2080 Super.

Its overclocking capacity is outstanding, the silicon we have tested has supported a huge increase in frequency as well as the memories, translating into improvements of almost 10 FPS in Full HD and 2K. The 7 + 2-phase VRM has impeccable performance, and with a fairly contained consumption compared to the reference model.

The KFA2 RTX 2070 Super Work The Frames Edition has one of the most aggressive aesthetics of how many models are on the market. Although we still do not know the official price, it will be around 550-590 euros, a very attractive price for everything it offers us, since we have quality construction and high-resolution performance guaranteed.
