Today we have in hand the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3, a small device that surprises with the large number of functions that it is capable of. In the first place, it works as a memory card reader and wireless pendrives that will allow us to access the files stored in them from smartphones, tablets and computers. Secondly, it works like a powerbank thanks to its integrated battery, so we can charge our smartphone and even our tablet. Finally it is able to work even as a wireless router. Does anyone give more?

Unboxing and design

The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G2 comes in a small cardboard box that includes the device itself, a USB-Micro USB cable, a MicroSD to SD card adapter, the warranty card and a quick start guide in several languages including Spanish.

If we focus on the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G2 we see a device built in white plastic with a size considerably larger than the G2 model that we analyzed last year, it is especially noted that it is thicker. At the top we find three LEDs that indicate the level of charge, the activity of the WiFi network of the MobileLite Wireless G3 and a third that lights up when using the device as a bridge with our internet network.

On the left side we find the USB port to connect a pendrive and an SD slot in which we will connect a memory card to view its contents, while on the right side we find a 10/100 Ethernet network port to use the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 as a wireless router. The back is completely free.

Finally at the bottom we find a sticker with some data such as the MAC address along with several quality certificates and other information regarding WiFi and the 5, 400 mAh battery.

Storage and Playback

The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 does not have internal storage, however we can connect any memory card or pendrive with Fat, Fat32, exFAT and NTFS file systems. The function of the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 is to make the content of the media that we connect available on various wireless devices connected to the WiFi network generated by the device and that we can access them.

The best way to access the contents of the media connected to the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 is through the "Kingston MobileLite" application. From there we can enter the configuration menu of the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 and explore the storage media that we have connected and even play the compatible content and modify and / or delete files and folders. We also have the option of creating backup copies of the files from our smartphone or tablet and store them in the storage medium. The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 allows us to use it as a bridge with our internet network, in other words, when we have our tablet or our smartphone connected we can also continue to use our internet network so as not to be left without a network connection despite be using the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3.

To access from the browser, we only have to enter 192.168.201.254 in the address bar and we will automatically access the device. From there we can enter the configuration menu of the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 and explore the storage media that we have connected and even play the compatible content. In this way we can access from all the devices for which an application is not available.

Powerbank that gets us out of trouble…

The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 also works as an interesting powerbank thanks to its integrated 5, 400 mAh battery that will allow the full recharge of most of the smartphones and tablets on the market. Take it with you and you will never be thrown away! Router mode

Finally we come to the last but no less interesting function of the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3, we can use it as a small wireless router, being perfect for when we are away from home. Thanks to its 10/100 Ethernet connector port you can connect it to the network of any place where you are, such as a hotel where you are staying or a country house where you spend your holidays with your friends.

The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 will generate its own wireless network so you can connect to the internet in a more secure way without your device being in full view of everyone connected to the network of the place where you are. It offers a very basic routing with hardly any configuration options but that will be enough, we can not ask for more.

Final words and conclusion

The Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 is a very interesting gadget that will allow us to play our multimedia files and view photos saved in various media from any device that has a web browser and / or an application is available. It also integrates a generous battery that will double as a Powerbank to recharge our smartphones and tablets and, last but not least, it will also serve as a portable wireless router when we are away from home and have a wired internet connection.
