Table of contents:
Smach Z is a portable console that was talked about a long time ago, it promises to offer a good gaming experience in a very compact device, something that will finally be possible thanks to the powerful and efficient AMD Raven Ridge processors.
Smach Z reaches its final version thanks to Raven Ridge
The original project was canceled but returned to Kickstarter in August 2016, at that time a device was promised that would run on an AMD Falcon processor accompanied by a 1080p display and Steam Controller. This idea has been dismissed in favor of using a Ryzen V1000 processor based on AMD's Raven Ridge platform, which promises far superior performance thanks to its Zen and Vega technology.
Specifically, a Ryzen V1605B processor would be used, this is made up of four cores and eight processing threads with a TDP of 15W, the set is dressed with a Vega 8 GPU with 512 shaders. The high efficiency of this processor allows to build a fairly compact portable device with very respectable performance. Smach Z Pro will offer 8GB of DDR4-2133 memory and 128GB of solid-state storage, while the base model Smach Z has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
This new Smach Z is expected to be unveiled during the Embedded World event to be held between February 27 and March 1. The arrival of AMD Raven Ridge chips has been a revolution in offering a single package with very tight power consumption and excellent potential in both CPU and GPU.
