It seems that Nintendo doesn't care that hackers are trying to modify their consoles in order to be able to install custom games and ROMs.

In the days when the NES Classic Edition had been released, it took just a couple of months for a Russian hacker to install additional games on the console. However, Nintendo did not modify the software and just over a week after the launch of the new SNES mini, the same hacker, called Cluster, has updated his hackhi2 tool in order to allow the installation of additional ROMs on this new console.

The Hackhi2 tool will make it possible to install additional games on the SNES mini

According to the hackhi2 release notes , virtually any SNES game can be installed on the new mini. The emulator would even be able to run old NES games, greatly expanding the catalog of titles available for installation.

The possibility of adding additional games to the SNES mini is even more important this time, since the SNES only comes with 21 pre-installed games out of the 30 that were in the NES mini.

Nintendo said nothing for now about the new hack, but it probably won't since the company doesn't offer any legal way to add more games to its consoles.

The SNES Classic Mini has about 300 MB of storage, of which about 80 megabytes is taken up by pre-installed games, saved games, and other things required by the system.

Additional ROMs can be in sizes ranging from a few kilobytes to several megabytes, so you can add more games to the device without worrying too much and without running the risk of affecting its operation.

To use the tool, you will have to download it to your PC from the Github page (no installation required), after which you will have to run it, click on the “ Add more games ” button, select the ROMs you want and click on the " Synchronize " button. Later, the application will guide you to synchronize the mini console with the game.

If you can't install it, you will surely find several useful tutorials on YouTube that will guide you step by step.
