Amd radeon rays (raytracing) technology integrates with the unity engine

Table of contents:
The well-known Unity Engine is incorporating AMD's recently announced Raytracing Radeon Rays lighting technology. Radeon Rays is open source, allowing OpenCL compatible devices to use Raytracing in real time, similar to what NVIDIA offers with RTX.
Unity to Incorporate AMD Radeon Rays, Open Source Real-Time Raytracing
Although this addition will not bring real-time Raytracing to games, for now, Unity has announced that it plans to have this feature later this year already implemented in the graphics engine.
This feature is targeted at developers, allowing them to use Raytracing technology in real time with an efficient workflow and the least impact on performance. We know that Raytracing requires completely realistic lighting and shadow calculations, something that fully impacts performance, and these would be the first steps to be applied to video games.
Being an open source solution based on OpenCL, Radeon Rays can work on all OpenCL, C +++ and Vulkan compatible devices, which includes CPUs and GPUs from major manufacturers, operating systems and graphical APIs. This is in contrast to Microsoft's DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API, which only works with DirectX 12 and Windows 10.
Unity has claimed that Raytracing will hit its 'GPU Progressive Lightmapper' feature later this year, though exactly how this real-time solution will work is currently unknown.
