Skype is one of the most used instant messaging applications in the world, with text, voice chat and the ability to make video calls, its offer is very complete for millions of users around the world. Although a version of this messaging client for Linux already existed, it had been abandoned for a long time, until now.

A new renewed version of Skype for Linux

Microsoft has just surprised with the launch of a new renewed version of Skype for Linux and also another specially created for Chromebook. In the new version of Skype for Linux some improvements are noted, such as a new interface, emoticons and the possibility of sharing files, which apparently was not present in the previous version. As for that version for Chromebook, it now supports making calls but being such an early version, there are still bugs to correct and features are missing compared to the desktop version for Windows, which is the best at the moment.

New interface, emoticons and the possibility to share files

Keep in mind that Skype for Linux is an Alpha version that is already available to download in DEB and RPM formats. In this regard, Microsoft will pay special attention to user feedback to improve its messaging client in Linux, so the collaboration of the community will be essential, as in Windows 10 and its Insider program.

With this move Microsoft seeks to cover as much as possible and be available to more users who do not use Windows and if free alternatives, which are not few.
