The last of us remastered: the most anticipated game of 2014

More than 200 awards, for the best game of 2013, endorse The Last of Us as the flagship of PS3, which you can also enjoy now on Playstation 4.

Anyone who has enjoyed it knows that it is a special, unique game, one that leaves an unforgettable mark after having finished it, as well as being the technological ceiling of PS3, a game capable of withstanding comparison with the first batch of next gen games. And now, 13 months later, its creators have adapted it to PS4, improving its already flawless technical plot, reviewing some aspects that were missing from the original title (such as the positional sound in the dialogues) and including all the downloadable content. Outcome? Well, as simple as it is still the same wonder, more complete and beautiful.

For those who have not yet played it, TLOU tells the story of Joel and Ellie, two survivors who will have to make a long journey together (again, we will avoid guts for those who have not yet enjoyed it) through an apocalyptic world, ravaged by violent mutations and survivors who will bring out the worst in themselves to stay alive.

The plot expands over 12 chapters (and about 15 hours long), in which we live an intense story of survival (raw materials to make our kits and weapons are scarce), stealth and action. A story with characters with a brilliantly recreated psychological profile, with heartbreaking moments, which are told to us both through the characters and the environment itself, through painted notes. All watered with an emotional soundtrack by the "Oscar" Gustavo Santaolava and a dubbing into Castilian of those who mark time. It was already a unique experience on PS3, and on PS4 things are even better.

THE WHOLE GAME RUNS AT 1080P

From Sony they affirm that it also moves at 60 fps, including the multiplier mode, although the truth is that several consulted sources have not noticed a sensation of fluidity as pronounced as in Tomb Raider (but it is much superior to the PS3 version). Overall, the experience is much more eye-catching, thanks in part also to the inclusion of much more detailed models, truer textures, better light and shadow effects, reworked particle effects, and overall a major facelift.

The "problem" is that the PS3 version was squeezing the full potential of the console, so, at first, the jump may not seem so obvious. But it only takes loading the PS4 copy and the PS3 copy next to it to see that everything is at a higher level on PS4 that is more fluid and stable. Of course, do not expect the panacea either: it is a game designed in the previous generation and its pros and cons remain. It does not modify its gameplay one iota, such as extending the confrontations with mutants and humans at the same time, as seen in LeĆ Behind.

Even so, if you did not play it in its day, now you can do it in its best and most complete version, although for the rest, it will depend a lot on how fan you are, if you are willing to go through the box again and the time that you are going to dedicate to the multiplayer. I insist, at a playable level it is exactly the same game, with higher resolution and more beautiful.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF REMASTERIZATION

As was also the case for the recent definitive edition of Tomb Raider, it is the price. This is a game from a year ago, which offers the original title and all its DLC for almost the same price as the first edition. The big mistake that Naughty Dog and Sony has made is not having offered any kind of discount for those who in its day they bought it for PS3, no option to get a digital copy at a reduced price like Battlefield 4 and other inter-generational games did. Even with everything, it is an adventure as exceptional as it is unique. So if money is no problem and your love for TLOU knows no limits, this Remastered must be yours.

Final assessment

  • The best: The graphics look better than on PS3. The visual plot wins with the 1080p, more detailed models and textures. The adventure is unique, thanks to the added content, as the experience is expanded. The sound is spectacular, unforgettable BSO dubbing and superb effects. And with the PS3 sound bugs fixed, everything and being remastered remains a one-of-a-kind, exceptional adventure that looks better on PS4.

Worst

  • The price. Although there is a lot of work behind it, it was last year's game and there are no discounts or anything like that.
