The ASUS VG248QE arrived in a full-color box with an image on the upper right of the screen - the product name is highlighted within a red stripe at the bottom. In very vivid colors we are presented with the 144Hz refresh rate, the 1 ms response time and which is LED.The box weighs about 5.5 kg. and it measures 67mm x 41mm x 22mm (WHD).
Package includes Dual-link DVI cable, audio cable, power cable, Quick Start Guide, Installation CD and warranty card.
The dock looks a lot like the one found with the ASUS VG278HE monitor, though the mounting mechanism is different. Everything is finished in a high-gloss black paint.
The Asus VG248QE has a large swivel stand that is adjusted to a side position for shipping.
This can be rotated so that the base of the bracket can be screwed into place.
Inclination: +15 ° ~ -5 °
Rotary: Yes
Pivot: Yes
Height adjustment: Yes
VESA wall anchor: 100x100mm
More images, the monitor is very attractive.
The bracket has a red clip on the bottom that can be used to guide the cables cleanly inside the I / O panel.
The power connector plugs into the right side of the panel. On the left is an HDMI, DisplayPort, and DVI-D Dual Link connector. This dual-link DVI port is DVI-D so it may well support 144Hz refresh rate (full NVIDIA 3D Vision).
There's also a 3.5mm mini jack for PC audio (green), and a headphone jack for HDMI and DisplayPort (black).
It's nice to see a Displayport included in the VG248QE, as ASUS didn't include one in the larger VG278HE (It had a VGA port in place for some reason).
You can see that the buttons on the menu interface are at the bottom of the frame, on the left side of the monitor. They are the traditional and physical buttons.
The front panel comes in an easy-to-understand way with buttons for the main menu system, up and down movement buttons, and input / power buttons.
Additionally, the monitor features the exclusive ASUS VG248QE GamePlus shortcut key with Aimpoint and timer functions. Players can select four different Aimpoint types to suit their gaming environment to better target first person shooting (FPR) games While the timer keeps players in mind the elapsed time in the real time strategy (RTS) game.
Color modes change color saturation to suit a variety of situations.
The 6 preset video modes (Landscape, Theater, Games, Night Vision, sRGB, and Standard) can be selected via a shortcut key. As with the most vivid monitor is the "game" the way to add some vitality made with a small reduction in saturation.
Landscape mode is a mode I don't like about these screens, as it drives the saturation level beyond the point that I consider to be usable.
The standard setting seems to be the most useful since you can configure the brightness, contrast and color settings. Some of them were locked inside other predefined modes. I also liked the sRGB setting.
Built-in speakers aren't the most capable, but perfectly usable in an office-style setting when bass response and final volume aren't all that important.
WE RECOMMEND YOU Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM Review in Spanish (Full Review)The tests that we have carried out are quite basic, we did not want to enter into technicalities, RGB tests, etc. that most users do not know. However we have tested it in all the fields to which we usually take our monitor.
Redaction of documents:
The 24 ″ screen is an excellent ally to work on, given its large size, we can use text sheets, or any office job with maximum comfort, as we can view two documents at the same time.
Multimedia:
To test it in this field, we have viewed a movie in Full Blue Ray, always observing the maximum detail, with an impressive color. Without any strange shading or in the fastest images.
Games:
This is the strong point of this monitor, and we have wanted to test it in all the aspects that have been possible for us, due to technical problems beyond our control, we have not been able to test 3D, but soon on this same site you will have an extensive analysis of the best and most immersive configuration of today in 3D. A 3D Surround of the Asus 27 ″ the VG278HE.
However, we have been able to test the games in 2D, and the experience is impressive:
Color response across the panel was above average, although not exceptional. The image can be adjusted quite easily through the on-screen menu systems. Contrast levels are very impressive.
The viewing angles are normal, and a little less impressive than the VG278HE. This is a problem with most TN panels. We measure 167 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically.
In order to enjoy this monitor in all its glory, we have to achieve a refresh rate of at least 120 Mhz, 144 Mhz, they are its sweet spot.
It is not easy to keep a game from the latest titles to that framerate, (I remember that the team must give 144 Fps, to be able to watch a game with that smoothness). We have been able to enjoy it thanks to the fact that our team had a 3930K at 5000 mhz, and a 3 way GTX 670. And the smoothness with which a game moves at 144 Hz is astonishing, you immediately realize that the monitor is not a 60 Hz, which we are used to.
Its excellent response time, 1 ms (GtG), makes us see very sharp images at all times, without any ghosting effect on our screen.
The experience of playing on a monitor like this is frankly advisable. The monitor can already be found in the best stores in Spain for a price of € 325 approx.
