Bloomberg today named AMD CEO Lisa Su as one of its "Bloomberg 50s." This award rewards "the people who defined 2019" across a variety of vital sectors, "from finance to fashion and technology to commerce."

Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, enters the 2019 'Bloomberg 50' list

Lisa Su was included in the Bloomberg 50 for exactly the reason you are thinking: finding a way to beat Intel in your own game. Bloomberg said that his "steady hand has made AMD a credible alternative for large customers who have long trusted" Intel. And, of course, it did so despite being at a serious market share disadvantage.

Bloomberg also recognized Su for managing the launch of AMD's 7nm processors shortly after Intel started struggling with its 10nm offerings. (A deficiency Intel promised to rectify in October, when it said it hoped to "regain leadership of the process" from its competition.) These are great achievements.

We add other noteworthy achievements to Su's entry. AMD has also given manufacturers a solid alternative, while Intel has struggled to keep up with demand, has become increasingly popular with enthusiasts, and has continued to bridge the performance gap between its offerings and those of its competitors.

Can all of these achievements be attributed solely to Lisa Su? Probably not, since the shortage of Intel processors has also influenced and that is something that AMD cannot handle. However, they have happened under the leadership of Lisa Su, who knew how to take advantage of the low guard of her competitor.

The year 2020 aims to be a continuation of 2019, AMD has a well established roadmap with its Ryzen processors and Intel is still dealing with its stock issues. The GPU market is a bit weaker for AMD, Nvidia is certainly in a very dominant position with its Turing graphics and the red team still doesn't have GPUs that could cope.
