We return to the old ways and this time we bring you the analysis of a Logitech product. Specifically, the interesting Logitech G915, a spectacular slim-profile, low-profile wireless keyboard that combines premium quality finishes with many extras and great versatility.

Wanting to know more about him? Let's not wait any longer. Let's see it!

Logitech is a Swedish company specialized in manufacturing computer peripherals, mainly mice, keyboards and headphones.

Logitech G915 unboxing

You know where we always start: we love packaging. The case of the Logitech G915 has a satin finish that shows us in a large size on the upper left corner the keyboard model with capital letters and the blue color of Logitech. This is accompanied by a photograph of the product that features a reflective resin gloss. The information that is highlighted on the cover is as follows:

  • Mechanical Lighting RGB LightSync Wireless LightSpeed Technology GL Touch Switches

On the sides of the box we again have the logo and model name, technical specifications and Bluetooth connection.

Then on the back we are offered more information on the highlights mentioned above. It should be noted a maximum estimate of 30h of autonomy (with 100% lighting) as well as a detailed view on some dedicated multimedia buttons and volume wheel.

Once we removed the rigid outer box we found a fine matte black cardboard cover with the Logitech logo embossed. When lifting it, we find a structure where the keyboard and other components are located.

The total content of the box consists of:

  • Logitech G915 Cable USB Port Adapter Manual and Quick Guide Promotional Sticker

Logitech G915 design

Premium finishes, Logitech does not disappoint

We get into the matter and the first thing we can highlight about the Logitech G915 is its finishes. The top cover is made from a brushed 5052 magnesium aluminum alloy. Its color is dark gray and the choice of this material not only gives it extraordinary resistance but also a sober presence.

In the upper left corner we can see the Logitech logo. This icon is part of the backlit keyboard system and will be included in the LightSync program. Just below are five G5 programmable macro buttons.

Speaking of dedicated buttons, the Logitech G915 has plenty. Not only does it have the G5 for macros, but on the upper edge we find a good collection of dedicated buttons with circular presentation and rubber touch. As it could not be less, these switches are also backlit.

Next, on F10 and F11 we have two LEDs that inform us about capitalization and the status of the battery. Both black texts are screen printed on the structure. On the other hand, it is a bit of a surprise the absence of an LED to inform about the numerical lock.

Just to its right, integrated into the structure, we have a matte black piece with the LightSpeed certificate engraved on its surface in a pale gray color.

Finally, we have four dedicated multimedia switches on the upper right corner of the keyboard as well as a scroll wheel to calibrate the volume. This wheel is made of stainless steel and features notches for easy tiered use.

The total of dedicated multimedia buttons are summarized in:

  • M1, M2, M3 and MR: management of active profiles Connection notification via USB receiver Connection via Bluetooth Button for game mode (Windows and custom key lock) Management of brightness intensity Multimedia buttons: back, forward, play, pause, mute. Volume scroll

Above the switches, these are low profile and exposed. The frame itself is very thin when compared to other keyboards, rising only 22mm in total.

In its default position, without the use of lifting lugs, the Logitech G915's frame hardly rises on the table. This is something that users looking for a slim gaming keyboard will greatly appreciate.

Turning to observe the sides of the structure, in the left rear area we have the switch that turns the keyboard on and off. This button is a circular shaped slide switch with a rough texture that travels over two alternative backgrounds, red and blue. This color information is an extra to ensure that it is on if, for example, we have established the use of the Logitech G915 without active lighting.

Also on the back edge and in its central area we find the Micro USB port to connect the Logitech G915 cable and thus be able to charge it, even during use.

Finally on the right side we find black serigraphed on the aluminum structure numbering G915 of the model.

On the back of the keyboard we have a total of six non-slip rubber supports that guarantee a stable position in our workspace, which is reinforced by the weight of the keyboard itself.

The available lift through the temples rises to two possible levels since both options are assembled in a single hinge structure.

Also on the back we can see with the label with information on the manufacturer, model, serial number and European Quality certificate.

Mechanical switches

In our case we use the touch Gl, but Linear and Clicky are also available.

Digging deeper into the switches, the feature of Logitech's range of low-profile switches is their short actuation distance. This type of button only needs a distance of 1.5 mm to act, being 2.7 mm its total travel to the bottom.

Observing them transmits a much less robust (or rough) feeling than traditional box keycaps. This perception is reinforced because although their surface presents a slight internal concavity, they are quite flat keys.

This homogeneous design for all keys generates two consequences:

  • On the one hand, it transmits much more cleanliness. It is a fine and elegant keyboard that fits both in a modern office and in the favorite corner of any gamer. In exchange, it sacrifices some ergonomics. Those who come from normal profile mechanical keyboards are used to buttons that not only have an oval shape but altogether offer on their most comfortable structure when typing for long periods of time.

As a positive aspect, something that will please those of you who come from membrane keyboards is that the sensation can be similar in terms of distance of pressing and shape of the buttons. The biggest difference you will notice will be more in the pressure necessary to press them (50g).

Connections

Apart from the 180 cm long charging cable (which can be worked while in use), there are two models of wireless connection :

  • USB Type-A Bluetooth Receiver

Above the nano receiver, it has wireless LightSpeed technology and this allows a response speed of one millisecond.

In the same box we find as a complement a format adapter that offers us a female nano USB port and another USB type A. This will allow us to connect the keyboard to, for example, a laptop or a tablet by adding an extension cable.

Logitech G915 commissioning

The first thing to mention is that when we come from a mechanical keyboard the first contact can be somewhat disconcerting. The ergonomics of the keys is different, so we will require a certain adaptation period.

To mention about its autonomy we must tell you that we have been using the keyboard with 100% lighting and indeed the 30 hours are quite long. Basically using the keyboard eight hours a day should hold the pull for around four days. On the other hand, this implies that using it with a lower percentage of lighting (or none at all) will significantly reduce its consumption.

illumination

RGB backlighting is individual to each key, from standard switches to macro buttons and multimedia buttons to the Logitech logo.

As a detail, the keyboard lighting loses intensity until it turns off after approximately one minute without use. Likewise, it will also turn off along with our computer when it does not perceive the signal from the receiver.

This maximum light has a fairly clear readability since the characters of the keys are somewhat thicker than average, allowing more light to pass through.

However, the secondary functions of the switches (accents, accents, brackets, etc.) are not backlit, but are screen printed in white.

software

If we talk about lighting, macros and other moves we can not avoid talking about the software, and less than one such as the Logitech G HUB. You know that we like to highlight something when it is good, so we will say the following about it: it only needs to give us the time.

This software has more resources than the Batman belt, and we do not say it for doing the grace. Advantage? Well, the thing is that although there are many panels to configure, the interface is neat and clean.

Mainly we have three main options:

  1. LightSync: lighting options, patterns, speed, direction and intensity. Assignments: manages the active keys and allows setting commands, keys, actions, macros and system control. Game mode: disable the keys, either preselected by defects or customized.

Finally, it should be mentioned that all the aforementioned changes can be made to each of the three individual profiles available on the keyboard. All this is saved in local memory without constant need for software.

Final words and conclusions about Logitech G915

Altogether, the Logitech G915 keyboard is ten. It has excellent finishes, good materials and lots of additional buttons for both macros and multimedia. However, this addition also makes it a keyboard of considerable dimensions (especially in terms of its length) although not so in height given its slim format.

The touch of the switches is smooth, light and fast. The tactile sensation they leave is very comfortable to write, although for those who want it more to play than for office tasks, a linear switch will probably suit you better.

For its part, the autonomy of the keyboard convinces us and thanks to the LightSpeed technology the latency has been totally non-existent. This is obviously true with the USB receiver, but using Bluetooth things can change so keep that in mind when playing.

We recommend reading: Best keyboards on the market.

We cannot close the conclusions without highlighting the virtues of the software that comes with the Logitech G915. We like good plugins, and the Logitech G HUB certainly is. This added to the dedicated macro buttons and assigned profiles make it an extraordinarily complete keyboard.

Does it strike a slim gaming keyboard with low-profile switches? Yes, definitely. However, this is obviously a matter of preference and is complex to explain. We do think it is a good alternative to membrane keyboards for those looking for something with a satisfying touch but less scandalous than in a conventional mechanical format.

The Logitech G915 is released with a price of € 249.99. From the outset it is understandable that it seems crazy to many, but we must keep in mind for which user this keyboard is intended. It is a high-end model, made to cover all the needs of any player and even designer thanks to its macro buttons. It is expensive? Yes, it is above average. However if you are fans of Logitech the G915 has it all, although you can also find cheaper formats within the brand itself.
