We have known for a long time that RAM and NAND memory chips are in short supply, so the prices of SSDs and RAM modules for PC do not stop rising in price. Lenovo Chief Operating Officer Gianfranco Lanci says the situation will be even worse this 2017 because there are two other components that are in short supply: batteries and displays.

Components are scarce, the PC will rise in price

The prices of these four components indicated do not stop rising so the PCs that incorporate them (all) will also rise in price in an attempt by manufacturers to maintain their profits. Lanci has not given an estimate of the impact of each of the components on the rise in prices given the wide variety of configurations that exist.

The price of RAM has already risen 30% in recent months and everything indicates that it will continue to rise until it reaches a 40% price increase. In some cases the increase is even higher, modules of 8 GB of capacity that could be purchased for 40 GB are already reaching 65 euros, so in this case we are going to more than 50% price increase. For the second quarter of 2017, a continuous rise in the prices of batteries and screens is expected, all due to the scarcity generated by the high demand for smartphones.
