Intel core i9 processors coming to laptops

Intel created the Core i9 brand to differentiate two key groups from Core X processors (high-end desktop processors). The Core i7 X series, which include 28 or 16 track PCIe interfaces, and the Core i9 X series, which include the full 44 track PCIe interfaces present in the "Skylake-X" silicon.

The Core-i9 brand also gained some degree of exclusivity, as it allows Intel to put processors above $ 999, such as the high-end i9-7980XE reaching almost $ 2, 000. Intel sees the possibility that the Core i9 series will also make the leap to laptops, even cutting back on some features, such as the number of PCIe tracks.

The Core-i9 family of mobile processors could bring the highest levels of performance from the 6-core “Coffee Lake” desktop processor to the notebook platform. Intel is putting the finishing touches on the line of Core i9-8000 "Coffee Lake-H" series processors, which could include the full 6-core / 12-wire configuration of the "Coffee Lake", along with 12MB of L3 cache.

The first model in this lineup could be the Core i9-8950HK, which could be seen in the FinalWire AIDA64 log. These chips could be added in high-end laptops and for the most demanding gaming sector, to accompany it with latest generation graphics cards and screens that are at least 17 inches.
