MSI Clutch GM50 is the new gaming mouse from MSI, the manufacturer of boards and cards also has a lot to say in the field of peripherals aimed at e-Sports. This mouse mounts a Pixart PMW 3330 optical sensor and RGB Mystic Light illumination and its weight is only 85 grams, ideal for FPS. In our analysis we will see what sensations and performance this MSI product leaves us, so, let's go there!
First, we must thank MSI for trusting us in transferring the product to us for analysis.
MSI Clutch GM50 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
This MSI Clutch GM50 gaming mouse has arrived in a flexible cardboard case in large dimensions to be a tiny peripheral. In it we see a full-size photograph of the mouse with its RGB lighting activated and the Mystic Light symbol, so it is clear to us that we can synchronize it with other MSI devices.
The good thing about this box is that we can see a photo of the disassembled mouse explaining its main characteristics, and we also have a front cover that we can open to see the mouse before buying it, something very important and that many manufacturers do not take into account. In fact, in the upper area, Try Me already tells us to try it, and that is what we will do.
We can see that the mouse is placed inside a classic transparent plastic mold that 90% of the mice use. In addition to the MSI Clutch GM50, we still only find the instruction book inside where we only see technical information about the mouse in several languages.
The MSI Clutch GM50 can be placed as a mid-range gaming mouse, since above this PMW 3330 sensor we find some more current and other equipment of the own brand with greater benefits such as the GM60 and the GM70. However, it is a mouse with a more or less standard design and compatible with all types of hands and grip as we will see later.
We see that it is a rather narrow and rather small mouse, with measures of 120 mm long, 67 mm wide and 42 mm high. The most relevant is its weight, which only reaches 87 grams if we do not have the clear cable.
Let's start by looking at its lateral areas, on the left side we only find the two navigation buttons with a rather peculiar design in a rounded shape and quite thick in the central area. However, we must say that they are perfectly controlled and located right in the center of the mouse to be accessible with all three types of grip.
The lateral grip areas are made of hard plastic and rough so that it does not leak, but at no time do we have a rubber coating or the like. Both sides are curved inward to fit the shape of the fingers that provide a firmer grip. Therefore, good ergonomics without going to extreme and strange designs.
Now we go to the upper part, in it we find a selection button of up to 5 DPI levels next to a good wheel covered with fluted rubber and with LED lighting on it. The touch is quite smooth and the scroll jumps are very little marked, making it a very fast and tender wheel.
Then we have of course the two main buttons equipped with Omron Gaming switches designed for a duration of more than 20 million clicks. The buttons are slightly rounded to better engage the fingers and are also wide enough to press on all types of grips. They are quite tender and with a very small pulsation path for greater speed.
If we look straight ahead at this MSI Clutch GM50 we will see that it has the traditional right tilt to facilitate its control and give speed to the right click. In this case it is not a too steep incline, to allow us a good grip in Claw Grip for example. The small white band on the wheel will serve to highlight its lighting.
In the rear area more of the same, with a pronounced drop back and two quite large lighting areas, undoubtedly highlighting the very well done brand logo. Obviously we will have noticed that it is a mouse only for right-handers.
We reached the bottom as an excuse to talk a little more about your sensor. In this model we have a Pixart PMW 3330 optical sensor with a maximum resolution of 7, 200 DPI ideal for playing in resolutions from 1080p to 4K. Basically, this sensor is configured in profiles of 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400 DPI, configurable with a step of 100 dpi. The maximum polling rate is 1000 Hz, generating latencies of less than 1 ms and its lift off distance can be changed between 2 and 3 mm.
It goes without saying that its 6 buttons will be perfectly customizable through the MSI Gaming Center software, as well as its lighting.
For sliding on the surface we have two huge PTFE legs that provide a large flat surface avoiding the typical snagging of the small legs and their detachment. Thanks to its 87 grams of weight, it is a really fast and simply gaming-oriented device, especially FPS.
In this case we will not have the customization of its weight or anything like that, we will only have to connect it to our equipment through its USB 2.0 gold plated and braided cable of 2 meters in length and start using it.
Grip and movement sensitivity tests
It is a gaming mouse, so we will have to see what it can offer us in terms of gaming experience and performance.
If we describe the grip, we must say that it is compatible with all three types of grip, at least we have noticed this in the team. We have hands of similar sizes (190 × 100 mm) so it is easier to compare information. Being a somewhat small and above all tight team, I find the pointed grip quite comfortable, with little support from the hand on the mouse and the fingers considerably arched as if it were an attempt to grip the claw.
If our favorite is the palm type grip, we will also have good support, but with somewhat smaller hands, on other occasions Claw and Fingertip Grip will be the best, especially for playing, which is what this MSI Clutch GM50 is designed for..
The experience of use has been positive, getting used to it is quite simple, and what stands out most in terms of gameplay is its light weight, which allows us to make any movement quickly and forcefully, since the sensor allows it. In such a case it is ideal for fast action games like FPS and competitive, where few controls and fast equipment are needed, although it would be round if we had a button for "sniper", since the other 6 buttons we believe that yes or yes they should have its basic normal configuration.
We now turn to see the results and experience in the sensitivity tests.
- Variance of movement: The procedure consists of putting the mouse in an enclosure of about 4 cm, then we move the equipment from one side to the other and at different speeds. In this way the line that we are painting in Paint will take a measure, if the lines vary in length, it will mean that it has acceleration, otherwise they will not have it. And in this case, we have noticed a very slight acceleration, as we see in the lines they are not exactly the same, although they are very similar. We must always take into account that it is a test where our own movement greatly influences, as we see in the drawing of the lines. That is why we have repeated the test several times to corroborate it. Consequently, of these actions, we consider a minimal acceleration, practically negligible. Pixel skipping: Performing slow movements, and at different DPI in a 4K panel, the pixel jump is non-existent, both on the mat and on wood and with angle assistance disabled. Tracking: Tests in games like DOOM or by selecting and dragging windows, the movement is correct without experiencing accidental skip changes. We do not have technical data from the manufacturer, it knows what acceleration it supports, but we have squeezed everything we can and it responds well. Performance on surfaces: It has worked well on all types of surfaces, shiny as metal, glass and of course wood and mats, something interesting in this mouse is that we can configure its lift off distance between 2 and 3 mm and it shows.
MSI Gaming center and MSI Mystic Light software
This mouse will be customizable from the two main brand softwares. With MSI Mystic Light software what we can customize is its lighting, obtaining the traditional effects that the brand provides for its devices, such as wave, rainbow, breathing or fixed, among others.
In addition to color, we can also customize the power of the lighting and the speed of the animation. Of course with a simple click on the sync button we will have the same animation on our devices.
With the MSI Gaming Center software we can customize all the available parameters of the MSI Clutch GM50. These parameters are, in addition to lighting, button settings, polling rate, DPI speed levels, lift off distance and also the assistant for angle precision.
We must say that the difference between having this last option of angles active and not having it provides us with a quite similar experience, at least on 4K screens with normal DPI. For our part, we recommend deactivating this option to play, to avoid strange mouse movements.
Final words and conclusion about MSI Clutch GM50
The benefits of this mouse we must say that they are very good. And it is that currently we have a range of optical sensors that the truth does not present practically weak points in both mid-range, high and even low-end equipment. A clear example is this PMW 3330, presenting excellent performance in typical tests.
In what if we have more capacity of opinion is in the design, and MSI has done a great job in this MSI Clutch GM50. We have one of the lightest mice that we find on the market that allows us to do practically what we want, and also in the three types of grips, we have small, large or medium hands. Great design work by MSI.

The customization is also quite good, being able to manage buttons, Mystic Light lighting and various performance parameters. Perhaps not as complete as other models of similar cost, but with what is necessary. Being an FPS oriented gaming mouse, we miss a Sniper button.
To finish we inform that this MSI Clutch GM50 can be found at the moment for a price of 53.99 euros. Perhaps about 40 or 45 euros would be a more adjusted price, especially I understand that MSI has two models above this one, and that there is stiff competition in the market. But behind we have the quality of a first-rate manufacturer such as MSI, and that pays for itself.
