Unboxing and design

The MSI GE62 7RE arrives in a standard-size cardboard box for a notebook of these characteristics . On its cover we can see printed the Dragon so characteristic of the company, the incorporation of the new Pascal GTX 1050 Ti graphics card and its new seventh generation i7 processors.

While in the rear area we find all the most important technical characteristics and its new technologies. Among them we highlight the incorporation of a Steelseries keyboard, the possibility of installing a third generation SSD and a Killer E2400 network card.

The MSI GE62 7RE is a fairly large model with 15.6 inches and a Full HD resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is built on a 16: 9 IPS (LCD) panel that improves response time and speed in games.

As we are used to, MSI has the Anti-Glare certification that improves the angles and brightness that often fail to design these screens.

The laptop has dimensions of 383 x 260 x 27 mm The first sensations are fantastic and that we thought it was going to be quite heavy, but its 2.6 kg makes it very versatile for some sporadic trip.

Among its connections we find a card reader for SD cards, power input, DVD, 3 x USB, a mini-displayport, HDMI, network card, USB Type C and an audio input / output.

The bottom of the laptop imposes, since we find several grids that allow the cooling system to take the necessary air to dissipate all the heat generated during its operation.

We look at the keyboard and we are in front of a high quality membrane unit signed by the great company Steelseries. Both the touch and the path of the keys is quite pleasant so it will be quite comfortable to use, and we get used to it very quickly while we are testing it this week.

One of the hallmarks of the company with its notebooks is the incorporation of the RGB LED lighting system. Ok, what is this for? Basically it allows us to configure the keyboard with different lighting options and a color scale of 16.8 million.

Above the keyboard we find the audio output, the 4 + 1 speakers are made by Nahimic Dynaudio to achieve remarkable sound quality for what is common in notebooks.

As for the processor we find an i7 7700HQ of the socket socket FCBGA 1440 with 4 cores and 8 threads based on the Kaby Lake architecture at a frequency of 2.6GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.5 GHz with a TDP of 45W. The motherboard incorporates the 6th generation HM175 chipset.

In RAM memory they have opted for a 16 GB kit in dual channel, a very generous amount to go over several years and nothing out of the ordinary in these ranges. They are DDR4L (1.2V) modules as required by Kaby Lake for greater energy efficiency and superb performance.

About storage MSI has opted for a 256 GB SSD disk drive with a read and write greater than 500 MB / s. To complement a fast system we also need a good storage system, this time with a 1 TB data hard drive and a speed of 7200 rpm. We see that it is a configuration with a head and that it will be great for design, work and games.

The graphics section incorporates the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card that does not measure up to the powerful GTX 1060/1070/1080 but has more than interesting features. It has a total of 768 CUDA Cores accompanied by 4 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 128-bit interface and a bandwidth of 112 GB / s. With these specifications we can play any game (the processor is already equivalent to an i7-6700K in stock frequencies) in Ultra and without messing around with Full HD resolution.

Although the experience with virtual glasses is not the best we can hope for, it is capable of moving HTC Vive glasses without problem, but in demanding titles we did not find a recommended experience. Therefore, it is better to opt for other higher-end graphics cards.

Test of performance

MSI Dragon Center allows us to personalize, monitor, take control from your smartphone with various applications. The first contact with her has been quite good and we have seen a good evolution with respect to previous generations.

We find a fairly palpable improvement, since we have risen from the i7-6700HQ with its 653 points to the i7-7700HQ at 736 CB points. Incredible result, here it may be worth a change in the future.

Between tests we have passed normal 3DMARk Fire Strike, its Ultra 4K version and Unigine Heaven. The magnificent results, at the level of a desktop computer. We can see the capture of Heaven at its best.
