Unboxing and design

The 8 GB MSI GTX 1070 Ti GAMING comes in a cardboard box in which the colors red, black and green clearly predominate. The chosen model and an image of our new graphics card are quickly identified on the cover. While in the back we have the main characteristics of the product.

The heart of this card is the Pascal GP104 graphics core that is shared by both the regular Nvidia GTX 1070 with GDDR5 and the 8GB GTX 1080 GDDR5X. Remember that the GTX 1080 Ti has the powerful GP102 and is at a much higher level.

This silicon is manufactured in TSMC's 16nm FinFET process and is capable of integrating a whopping 2, 432 CUDA Cores alongside 64 ROPs and 152 TMUs operating at a maximum speed of 1.6 GHz. Along with the graphics processor we have a total of 8 GB of GDDR5 memory at a speed of 8 GHz and with a 256-bit interface, which translates to a bandwidth of 256 GB / s. Although this card mails at a base frequency of 1 607 MHz, which with the Boost goes up to 1683 MHz.

We still think that it is a considerably better card than the current AMD RX VEGA 56 and it is almost expensive for the Nvidia GTX 1080. We continue!

The graphics card has dimensions of 279 x 140 x 42 mm mm and a weight of 1075 grams. The MSI GTX 1070 Ti GAMING also comes equipped with the new TWIN FROZR VI heatsink, which is a 0dB cooling system that will keep the processor, power phases and memories cool. The heatsink is accompanied by several black aluminum sheets that cool all the components, and of course it has the recent MSI TORX 2.0 fans that offer 22% more pressure on the entire aluminum surface.

Both fans are activated when 60ºC are reached, and stop once the same temperature is reduced. It is a delight to see its performance and cooling capacity.

Its 2.5D type design makes it occupy just over 2 slots. And it is recommended to install it in boxes with a large space, both in length and height, since it protrudes a lot from the slot.

Rear view of the graphics card. On the RGB lighting only the logo of the upper area (the dragon) counts. Nothing serious for those users who are not very interested in colored lights.

It incorporates two 8 + 6-pin power connections. PCB and internal components

To remove the TWIN FROZR VI heatsink is very simple. It is as simple as removing the 4 main screws (the one with the warranty seal). Returning to the heatsink, we came across a heatsink of 5 8mm heatpipes and several thermalpads in charge of correctly cooling the entire system.
