MSI Infinite A is one of the best pre-assembled desktop PCs that we can find in the market, it is about teams that have put a lot of care into all aspects, from an excellent chassis to the latest, to each of the best components inside. This time we have been sent to analyze one of the most interesting models, with a GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB graphics card and a six-core Core i7 8700 processor.

First of all, we thank MSI for the trust placed in our team by transferring the product to us for analysis.

MSI Infinite A technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The MSI Infinite A PC reaches the user's hands fully assembled and ready to be enjoyed from the first moment. The equipment comes in a very large cardboard box and neutral color as you can see in the photos. Once we open the box, we find the PC perfectly protected by two pieces of high-density polystyrene and covered by a cloth bag. Next to the PC we find a box with the power cable and documentation. It is a very careful presentation of the best products on the market.

The MSI Infinite A is manufactured with a black chassis, made of high-quality SECC steel, and with a fairly conservative design compared to the much more aggressive line in the Aegis series. The chassis has a multitude of grille areas to allow better cooling thanks to greater air intake from the outside.

The front has a fairly simple design, although with certain angles to avoid a fairly flat design. In the upper area we find the I / O panel, with the 3.5mm gold-plated connectors for audio and micro, the power button, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 3.1 port and a USB Type-C port. We highlight that MSI has also included an optical drive in this model, something that is less used every day, but that can always come in handy to have. At the edge there is a grid area to allow air to enter the front fans.

In the upper area we see an area finished in microperforated metal mesh, which will help to extract hot air from inside the PC to avoid overheating of its components. This upper area also has a handle to facilitate the transport of the equipment to events or to friends' houses to give them a little envy.

At the bottom we see four plastic legs and the air inlet to the power supply, perfectly protected by a dust filter.

The main side has a window formed by a structure of perforations in the steel, this area is right next to the graphics card, and is intended to allow it to take in more fresh air for proper cooling. This side panel can be replaced by the tempered glass attached by MSI, something that will improve aesthetics.

At the back we see the power supply in the lower area, we also find four expansion slots and the 120mm fan at the top. In this area we also see the connectors of the graphics card, which is mounted vertically to improve aesthetics and prevent the motherboard from suffering from its weight.

In this back we find the following connections:

  • 4 x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type A2 x USB 2.01 x DP1 x HDMI1 x RJ455 x Audio Jack1 x S / PDIF1 x PS / 2

Once seen the exterior, it is time to look inside the MSI Infinite A. The first thing we appreciate is its design of three isolated compartments to improve cooling Silent Storm Cooling 3 PRO. This design allows the graphics card, processor and power supply to be in separate and isolated compartments, so that heat is not transmitted from one to the other.

The processor is a dei-core Core i7 8700 and it says threads at a base frequency of 3.2 GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.6 GHz. It is a processor with a 65W TDP that is not very hot, so MIS has chosen to put a small heatsink, which should not have a problem with this heat load, and avoids loading a lot of weight on the motherboard.

This processor is accompanied by an 8 GB DDR4 RAM memory module, it is a Kingston memory at a speed of 2400 MHz with a CL17 latency. It is a very basic memory, in addition, it is a single chanel configuration that will not take full advantage of the processor. We do not understand why two 4 GB modules have not been put to work in dual Chanel, as there would still be two other free slots to be able to expand it.

As for the graphics card, it is an MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Armor OC V1 with 6GB of GDDR5 memory, a very powerful card and capable of moving all current games to 1080p and even 2K resolution without much trouble.

Storage is provided by a 2.5-inch SSD with a capacity of 128 GB and a 3.5-inch 2 TB hard drive.

The power supply has a power of 550W and 80 Plus Gold certificate, more than enough characteristics for a team like this and much more, since we will not have problems to put in the future a more powerful card such as a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or even a of the next generation.

The features of this MSI Infinite A continue with a 7.1 channel sound system with Nahimic technology, an Intel WGI219V Gigabit Ethernet controller, Intel AC3168 WiFI wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 4.2.

Finally we see how the equipment is turned on and next to a 27-inch MSI Optix MAG 270CQ monitor, at 2560 x 1440 pixels and 144 Hz.

Performance and storage tests

First of all we are going to see the speed of the SSD disk of this MSI Infinite A, for this we have used the popular program CristalDiskMark in its latest version, this has been the result obtained.

We now turn to see the behavior of the team in the most demanding games, all of which have been executed with the graphics at maximum and in 1080p resolution, the tests have been done with the FRAPS benchmarking tool for 180 seconds, it has been repeated three times and an average has been made.

The graphic adjustments have been as follows:

  • Far Cry 5: Ultra TAACrysis 3: Very High SMAA x 2 Project Cars 2: Ultra MSAA High Overwatch: Epico SMAADoom 2: Ultra TSSAA x 8

In the case of Far Cry 5, the benchmark tool included in the game has been used.

Final words and conclusion about MSI Infinite A

MSI Infinite A has proven to be an excellent mid-range team, this configuration is capable of moving all the games on the market to 1080p without messing up, we will also be able to play 2K, although we will have to lower the graphic adjustments in the most demanding games if we want to maintain 60 FPS. The cooling is excellent, since the processor has barely reached 65ºC and the graphics card 68ºC, without a doubt the design of three isolated cameras works very well. The only downside we put in terms of hardware is that a dual chanel memory configuration should have been mounted to better take advantage of the potential of the processor. Another point that we did not like very much is that it only includes a 120 GB SSD, and that it is also quite slow. If MSI corrects these two aspects it will have a product of 10.

We recommend reading: PC by parts or already assembled

The team's design is spectacular, at first glance it seems quite pano for what we are used to seeing at MSI, but the Mystic Light lighting and the tempered glass side put the finishing touch. We have no doubt that you will be the envy of your friends when they see it. Finally, we highlight the ease of expanding the components of the equipment, opening the panels is as simple as removing a couple of screws. Everything is very well organized inside, so it is nice.

This MSI Infinite A is for sale for an approximate price of 1400 euros.
