For today we have the pleasure of presenting the analysis of the MSI Optix MPG27C, the younger brother of the MPG27CQ, since in appearance they are practically the same with the fundamental difference that today's one has a Full HD resolution. With a curved VA panel and a 144 Hz refresh rate, this monitor will promise us many hours of gaming with maximum immersion and a spectacular gaming design. Without further delay let us begin this analysis in depth.

We thank MSI Iberia for giving us this product for analysis.

MSI Optix MPG27C Technical Features

MSI Mystic Light lighting

The color and the great gaming aspect could not be missing in the presentation of this MSI Optix MPG27C. Its box let us see what this monitor will surely offer us in terms of visual appearance, a 27 ”curved screen full of LED lighting in both the front and rear.

Quickly we are going to open this box of not excessive dimensions to find the following elements and accessories:

  • MSI Optix MPG27C Monitor Adjustable Stand and Stand Power Supply DisplayPort CableHDMI CableAudio Jack User Guide and Warranty

All this comes perfectly located in the box, the monitor fully sealed by means of two large expanded polyethylene corks, the base and support also on the corresponding molds, and the rest of accessories in bags and in a separate compartment.

Before proceeding to mount the MSI Optix MPG27C on its supports, let's take a closer look at each item.

First of all, we have the monitor support made up of two elements. The first of these are the support feet, with three large legs and entirely made of metal. And the second consists of a hydraulic arm with a coupling consisting of a quick mechanism for easy installation.

This arm will also be made of fairly thick metal, as the weight is considerable. The external trims are made of black PVC plastic with a hole in the center to redirect the cables through it.

For its part, the screen is, as we can see, curved configuration, at a radius of 1800 mm and not too thick. It has compatibility for the VESA 100 × 100 mm coupling, as we can see with those four screws, but in this case, it will be much easier, since we only need to fit the screen on two upper tabs and press inwards so that it is perfectly hold.

After the DIY work, we will have managed to mount our MSI Optix MPG27C monitor in no time. In the external aspect we must emphasize the absence of plastic frames, since these are directly integrated into the image panel. The only one that we can appreciate is the one at the bottom, which is also quite attractive with the MSI logo and the Five bands with MSI RGB Mystic Light LED lighting.

For its part, the screen finish is completely matte with Anti-Glare and without any shine. We must say in this sense that the clamping system is not one of the most rigid that we have seen and we experience a slight stutter on the screen if the desk is shaky or we make movements that are not very smooth.

We can see how the external appearance is practically identical to the MSI Optix MPG27CQ monitor, but with the difference that in this case the MPG27C version has FullHD resolution and the MPG27CQ is 2K.

The whole set is entirely gaming looking, with aggressive finishes on the stand and brushed material and vinyl look on the cone of the screen. We will see that this rear area also houses some other surprises in the form of lighting.

As is normal, we must stop in the ergonomics section, where this MSI Optix MPG27C offers us quite a few possibilities. To start, we have the possibility to rotate it on the Z axis at 40 degrees to the right and 40 degrees to the left, therefore, a fairly wide movement.

We appreciate in detail how the joint for movement is located precisely in the support of the base and the support, in the elements in metallic red.

If we want to change the front orientation, we can also do it 5 degrees down or 20 degrees up on the Y axis of space.

The total extension in measurements of this monitor is 612 wide, 555.8 high (maximum) and 379.3 mm deep, mainly due to the large extension of the support legs.

Last but not least, we have the possibility to raise and lower it by simply pressing the monitor, since we are dealing with a hydraulic arm with a range of movement of 120 mm between the lowest and highest position.

We go directly to the connectivity section, where we must differentiate two zones, the first one for the current supply through an external power supply that transforms the 230 V from alternating current to 19 V into continuous at 3.42 Amps. It is in this way that we avoid having the transformer inside the monitor, occupying space and generating heat.

As for video connectivity, we have 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.2 port, Micro Jack or Micro Combo input plus headphones. Finally we have 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-B port that is responsible for offering customization through software for this monitor.

On the side panel and much more accessible to the user, we have the data ports panel, with two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, one headphone jack and one microphone input. If we remember, in the accessories we have a Jack connector included combo to individual converter for micro and headphones.

In no man's land and in the back area, we also have a Kensington- type padlock.

Display and features

In this section we will try to explain the technical characteristics of the screen of this MSI Optix MPG27C monitor. It is a 27-inch 1800R curved screen with a native Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) with a pixel size of 0.3114 × 0.3114 mm, so if we get very close we will notice these small image cubes.

The maximum refresh rate MSI has chosen is 144 Hz on a VA panel of 16.7 million colors, so the color representation is fairly faithful, with 90% DCI-P3 and 115% sRGB. The backlighting is LED type.

The good thing about VA panels is that in addition to the good color fidelity, we also have a high contrast as in this case, with a ratio of 3, 000: 1 and 100, 000, 000 DCR. The maximum brightness is 250 nits (cd / m 2) and the response time is only 1 ms, as it should be in a pure gaming monitor.

MSI has also introduced AMD FreeSync technology in this monitor, technology that of course we can make compatible with Nvidia G-Sync through the drivers of our graphics card, if it is from the GTX 1000 or RTX 2000 range, and having the drivers updated.

Another good feature of this VA panel is that, like the IPS, it also allows us to have a greater range of vision with color fidelity. In this case we have a maximum angle of 179 degrees vertically and horizontally.

We miss some speakers, even if they are tiny for this monitor, because to get us out of a hurry they would be quite good.

OSD menu, LED lighting and SteelSeries GameSense application

The appearance of the MSI Optix MPG27C OSD panel is totally gaming, with quite large measures so that we can read without any work all the available options. And the most interesting thing of all, is that for your control we only have a joystick in the back area, without messy buttons or anything. With this control we can both navigate through its options and select each one of them.

As it could not be otherwise, we have a total of six sections to control all the options of this monitor, which the truth is many. This menu is very complete and is also in Spanish.

But wait because this is not all we can do with the OSD, we can also interact with it from an MSI application called GamingOSD. Basically it is about having more extra monitor options in this program to be able to interact with the monitor hardware and adapt it to the content we are playing.

We also have MSI Mystic Light technology and SteelSeries GameSense software to integrate your RGB LED lighting with games and Anti-Flicker and Less Blue Light to reduce eyestrain. Just now we will talk a little about GameSense and what we could do with it from our operating system.

Steelseries GameSense is a truly complete application to be able to interact independently with each and every one of the LEDs of the 16.7 million-color MSI Mystic Light RGB lighting system that this gaming monitor brings.

In order to interact from the application on the MSI Optix MPG27C monitor, we will need to connect the USB 2.0 Type-B cable that we have available between the monitor and the PC, so that it is detected correctly.

Here we can see the incredible appearance that LED lighting gives to this monitor, both in the front area, with five linear cells, in the rear area with this kite trail-shaped circuit-like mesh.

We must say that the lighting will work without the need to connect the USB 2.0 previously mentioned, but with the limitation that we will not be able to interact from the GameSense program with it.

But this lighting not only serves to make the final appearance of the monitor beautiful, but we can also configure alerts for games compatible with it, such as Overwatch to monitor the life, powers or various systems of the typical HUD of the game.

MSI Optix MPG27C user experience

We now turn to see a little more detail the experience that this curved Full HD monitor has given us in the days that we have used them, and in different areas, such as photo editing and office work, multimedia content reproduction and of course in games.

Games

After testing this gaming monitor, we have no doubt that it has been designed for this purpose. This we quickly noticed by the feeling of immersion with its curvature, the 144 Hz and the speed of its VA panel.

Both in open world and exploration games, where graphic quality matters a lot to feel comfortable, as in shutter games where reflex speed prevails, we have had very good feelings with it. With the Gaming OSD program and the predefined image modes it brings, it has been very useful for us, AMD Freesync also works like a charm with the famous pendulum test and the lighting is, in addition to attractive, very useful for compatible games.

Graphic design and work

Because we are facing a very versatile panel such as this VA, we also have good possibilities here. This is mainly because this panel has 90% DCI-P3 / 115% sRGB quality, therefore the color fidelity is quite high, and at the level of many IPS panels.

The calibration is very good and its good contrast means that working for hours does not tire the eyes too much, so for these purposes it is also quite valid.

Movies and multimedia content

Again here immersion prevails, the feeling of being within what we see, and in this aspect the curved design comes in quite handy. In addition, most movies and videos can be acquired only Full HD resolution, so for users who are not very demanding in this regard, they have a monitor that works at an excellent level.

Of course in this regard, it will be best to turn off the front LED lighting so as not to be distracted by your animations and thus get a better experience.

The only thing that we must keep in mind, not only in the games section, but in all the others where we use this MSI Optix MPG27C, is that, if we are very close to it, we will notice the pixel panel, due to its low density and the big size. For this reason, we recommend using it at a distance of around 50 or 70 cm.

Final words and conclusion about MSI Optix MPG27C

This MSI Optix MPG27C inherits a lot from its big brother, the design is practically the same, with an excellent visual aspect due to the elimination of the side frames and the impressive MSI Mystic light illumination. In addition, it is possible to control this through SteelSeries GameSense software.

And speaking of software, we must not forget GamingOSD, a program that extends the options of the OSD to further customize the image quality of this monitor, as well as place crosshairs. In addition, the control by joystick is super comfortable and without the need to touch a single button more.

As for the experience of use, it has been outstanding considering that it is a Full HD monitor. For the vast majority of players this resolution will be the best and most affordable and with which you can position the graphics to the maximum. Its VA panel, 144 Hz, and AMD FreeSync do their work like a charm. We just have to take into account that the pixel density is not high and we will need a distance of about 50-70 cm to have a good visual experience.

We finish our impressions with the ergonomics and connectivity of this monitor, we have two USB 3.0 very well placed and a headset connector that will be very useful to us. In this case we do not have built-in speakers, and we consider the attachment of the monitor to its support not too forceful, it is very safe, but we get some wobble.

MSI Optix MPG27C we will have it currently available for a price of about 419 euros approximately. We are facing a gaming monitor with many features and technology, but it is still Full HD, although in a curved format and this makes it more expensive, of course. Tell us what sensations this monitor has given throughout the analysis, would it be part of your wish list?
