MSI Vigor GK60 is the latest creation of MSI that is emerging as one of its best quality / price gaming keyboards, below its Vigor GK80 model but with very similar benefits. It is a mechanical keyboard with super quiet Cherry MX Red switches and a spectacular red backlight, with a price of approximately 100 euros that is not bad.

We thank MSI for their trust in us by giving us this keyboard for analysis.

MSI Vigor GK60 technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The box in which this MSI Vigor GK60 keyboard is presented has dimensions quite adjusted to the product, predominating the white and red colors that characterize the brand. In its upper part we are shown a photo of the fully illuminated keyboard and with the four keys with metallic imitation that come pre-installed as direction keys.

In the rear area some of the main features are explained to us in perfect English, such as its CHERRY Red switches, the rubber supports, its lighting or its metallic finish. Properties that we will see throughout the analysis. In this case it does not say anything about Mystic Light because this keyboard is not RGB, it only lights up in red.

We open the box at the top to find a well-fitted product thanks to two elements of polyethylene foam and in turn wrapped in a transparent bag. The cable comes in a separate, insulated compartment so it won't damage keyboard surfaces, though it's not removable. In the same package we also find a set of keys "W, A, S and D" to replace them with the gaming keys that occupy their natural position. Finally we find a small user manual with information in several languages including Spanish.

MSI Vigor GK60 is a complete mechanical keyboard, that is to say with a numerical keyboard and oriented to its use for gaming, although of course it has characteristics that are perfectly valid for any task. This keyboard stands out for its high-quality construction, with a metal plate protecting the entire base of the key panel, and a lower area in thick ABS plastic.

The measurements of the complete set are 440 mm long, 134 mm wide and 42 mm high with the legs extended, which is not exactly small. In addition, it has a weight of 1050 grams, making it clear that nothing bad is made of bad plastics. In addition, we have available a configuration in Spanish with its built-in "Ñ" key.

Surely the first thing that stands out from its external appearance are the gaming keys that we have installed in the address area, and that replace the traditional A, S, D and W. These keys are painted in silver and red, but they are plastic at just like the rest. The good thing about them is that they have a specific design for gaming with prominent side edges so that our fingers do not escape.

Panic should not spread, because in the purchase package we have very well stored the four keys with the letters so that we are the ones who decide when to put them, and thus have a normal and current keyboard. As for the distribution of keys we do not have any news, they are keys with a standard size, although with a slightly rough touch surface that feels really good and provides a very good experience in its use for writing.

In this model we do not have wrist rests available, and for some users this will be quite a consideration. It is a keyboard with a lot of elevation and for many it will be a bit tiring to write or use it without this extension element.

For a little better its MSI access already finished off the edge of the keyboard with a 45-degree bezel so that it does not disturb us in the hands.

Inside are hidden some true CHERRY MX Red mechanical switches, which are geared towards gaming use. They feature fully linear travel with a 2mm trigger point and 4mm maximum travel. These mechanisms only need 45 g of pressure to activate, compared to Cherry MX black that need 60 grams. In addition, they are completely silent, without the typical "click" sound that the Brown or White show, for example.

The positive aspect of these mechanisms is that they are very good to write text quickly and agile with a keyboard without sound and without doing almost any pressure. Similarly they are ideal to play because they are linear or very durable, we are talking about more than 50 million clicks. enduring our brutalities when we are tense. The only downside is that they are prone to accidental pulsations as they are so light.

Fixed red LEDs have been used for the lighting system of this MSI Vigor GK60, that is, in this case we do not have an RGB keyboard, so we do not look for a way to modify the color because there is not. Of course, we can modify some parameters such as intensity, animations and speed with the brand's software.

But be careful because all the lighting control system is also available on the same keyboard, specifically on the panel of 6 special function keys. To use its second function we will have to previously press the "Fn" key, which in this case is represented by the dragon logo of the brand, just next to the right Ctrl.

Let's see, with the function of the key " Ins " we can change the animation mode, with the key " Delete " we will change the direction of the animation. With the " Start " and " End " keys we can change the animation speed and using the " Re page " and " Av page " keys we will modify the animation frequency, being more or less consecutive, so to speak. The case is that we would not need the software at all, since the control system is complete.

In addition to these keys, we also find multiple multimedia functions in the last three "F" keys and in the three consecutive ones, so we do not have a complete function panel in all the F keys. The functions in question will only be to interact with the playback of multimedia content.

We take advantage of this image to take a closer look at the brushed metal finish of the key base protector, providing a very beautiful and high-quality appearance.

The rest of the features that we have in MSI Vigor GK60 are from a keyboard with full Ani-Ghosting capacity, in which each key sends its signal independently, and also with N-Key Rollover in gaming mode, with the ability to map all the keys that we press simultaneously. And the truth is that it more than complies, mapping absolutely everything we press at the same time, this is very important for gaming. We also have a Polling Rate of 1000 Hz to provide an ultra-fast response.

At the bottom we have nothing excessively remarkable. We see some legs with lateral opening of a single position that provide a maximum height of 42 mm from the keyboard, and yes, some good rubber feet with extra support in the left area where our hand will be supported for more time for direction control. We see that MSI has thought of everything, and this is very positive.

We have wired connectivity via USB 2.0 port with a 2 meter cable and without meshing, unlike for example the GK80 model.

Many will think that all keyboards offer the same experience in their use, and this is not the case at all. Our experience with this MSI Vigor GK60 has been very good, especially when it comes to playing. Really the silver keys give us better control and stability than the normal ones, so we recommend using them when we play. Another very remarkable aspect is of course the CHERRY switches, you can see their quality and the finesse with which they go, with very firm keys and a very solid press.

If we talk about its use for writing, at first we will notice a somewhat heavy keyboard, not as agile as expected by its 45 grams of pressure. It is normal in any case on a newly released keyboard, but the firmness of the keys and their non-existent sound look great and provide a very good experience. Highly recommended for all areas the truth.

MSI Gaming Center and Mystic Light software

We start with the MSI Gaming Center software , in which we will not have great configuration options. We can only turn the lighting on and off, modify its brightness and also choose the animation we want to represent.

With this keyboard we do not see macro configuration options or custom key mapping, so its configuration is quite basic and limited.

As for MSI Mystic Light, practically more of the same, basic lighting configuration in terms of intensity and speed animations. Being a keyboard with fixed Red lighting, it would be pointless to include it in the synchronization of other MSI devices, since we are not going to achieve anything at all.

Final words and conclusion about MSI Vigor GK60

After several days of use, this MSI Vigor GK60 keyboard makes it very clear what it is designed for, we are dealing with a gaming keyboard with a sublime build quality and CHERRY MX Red switches that also leave no doubt who the manufacturer is. Full-size keyboard with metallic elements at its base and quality plastic in the rest that promise durability to the user.

The gaming experience has been the best, they are very quiet keys and with a forceful path very well fixed to their base. At first we will experience a somewhat hard keyboard with less agility, but as the days go by we will tame the keys and everything will become much faster and more comfortable.

We recommend our guide to the best keyboards on the market

The lighting, although only available in red, we must say that it is spectacular, powerful and that it defines the position of the keys very well. Something that we have missed when writing long hours is the palm rest, it is possible that that's why the feeling of agility is a little reduced, since it is a quite high keyboard and a support element would come in quite handy. Of course it depends on the taste of each one, but for the price, a support element would not hurt.

In regards to software management, we must say that it is something basic, we can only modify lighting in its basic parameters and no remapping of keys, that on a gaming keyboard perhaps something like this would come in handy. We will have MSI Vigor GK60 available for a price of 109.95 euros, which we do not see as high for the product we are talking about. Cherry switches, lighting and great build quality, this is not an input range, so it is highly recommended.
