We thank MSI Spain for trusting the product for its analysis:

MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK technical features

Unboxing and design

MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK It comes in a compact red box. On its cover we find an image of the product and in large letters the exact model of the motherboard.

While in the back they indicate all the most outstanding technical characteristics.

Once we open the box we find the following bundle:

  • MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK motherboard. SATA cable set. Rear hood. SLI bridge. Instruction manual and quick guide. CD with software. Wiring stickers. Customized bezels. Wifi antennas.

The MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK is an ATX format board with dimensions of 30.5 cm x 24.4 cm. It is designed for LGA 2066 socket and its gray aesthetic is very pleasing to the eye.

Incorporating the latest Intel chipset, it is fully compatible with all new quad - core Intel Skylake-X processors and up to 10-core Intel Kaby Lake-X processors (for now).

The MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK features two cooling zones: 12 + 1 + 1 power phases and one for the X299 chipset. As expected, all its components share the Military Class technology.

In a complementary way, the account incorporates an external generator that offers greater freedom in the settings of the BLCK: OC Engine. That allows you to quickly overclock from the same board.

The board incorporates a total of 8 64 GB and 128 GB DDR4 compatible DDR4 RAM sockets with frequencies from 2666 MHz to 4266 MHz in Quad Channel being compatible with the XMP 2.0 profile.

But if you are thinking about acquiring the most basic processors of this generation: the i5-7640X and i7-7740X, remember that it only supports Dual Channel and all modules must be installed on the right side of the motherboard (right sockets).

The MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK features a fairly drinkable PCI Exprees connection layout. It has four PCIe 3.0 to x16 slots compatible with Nvidia's 3 Way SLI and AMD's CrossfireX. Additionally, it counts two other PCIe normal to x1.

Both RAM sockets and PCI Express connections feature PCI-E Steel Armor technology, This is a reinforcement of these connections to better support the weight of the hardware and improve data transfer.

As expected, it incorporates up to two M.2 connections to install any type 2242/2260/2280/22110 NVMe SSD (42/60/80 and 110 mm) with a bandwidth of up to 32 GB / s. As expected, it allows us to connect Intel Optane connections, although if we want high performance with these units we must acquire a Key to activate VROC.

MSI has taken yet another turn to its MSI Shield M.2 technology. And it has improved its design to support a total of two M2 NVMe drives, which as we saw in our tests managed to lower a high-performance M.2 NVMe down to 10ºC. On this occasion, we have not been able to test it in greater detail, but according to the documentation it offers the same performance, although we understand that if we only connect one we can surely improve those temperatures.

The integrated sound card incorporates Audio Boost 4 technology. Among its improvements we find the use of 8-channel premium quality audio components. Which will make us enjoy a more crystalline sound and with a high impedance headphone amplifier.

RGB lighting takes on more importance in this new generation of motherboards. MSI specifically relies on Mystic Light technology with 16.8 million colors. The areas that benefit from lighting are both the area of the rear connections, the sound card and the heatsink of the motherboard chipset.

Regarding storage, it has six 6 GB / s SATA III connections with RAID 0.1, 5 and 10 support and a double SLOT U.2 to install top quality solid state disks .

Finally we detail the rear connections of the MSI X299 Gaming PRO Carbon AC. They are made up of:

  • 1 x BIOS Clear 1 x BIOS Change 8 x USB 3.0 1 x PS / 21 X USB 3.1 Type C1 x LAN Gigabit Killer Wireless Killer Connection 8 channel sound output

As we saw in the Gaming PRO Carbon has infinite options. Its AMIBIOS allows us to overclock, create profiles with different configurations, carry out exhaustive hardware monitoring and explore the components installed on the motherboard.

Final words and conclusion about MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK

The MSI X299 GAMING M7 ACK is a TOP motherboard for the LGA-2066 socket both for internal and aesthetic design. It has a total of 12 power phases, excellent components, improved sound, two outstanding wired and wireless network cards.

Regarding the performance in our test bench with an Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 32 GB of RAM and the i5-7640X processor (we had no other at the time) they have been more than good, since the latter we have been able to raise until the 5 GHz without too much complexity. The results speaking for themselves.

We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market.

We really liked that MSI opts for Killer chips for both LAN and wireless connection which are specially designed for gamers: it reduces latency and gives preference to our games before any PC task.

Currently we can find it in stock in the main online stores for a price of 415 euros. Taking into account everything it offers us, it seems to us a more than interesting option. But the differences are not so great with the Gaming PRO Carbon that we analyzed very recently.
