MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium It comes packed in a large cardboard box, where the color silver predominates and an image of the motherboard on its cover. Along with it come all the official certifications and the new MSI logo.

Once we turn the box, we find the back of it. In it we find detailed the main most important technical characteristics of the motherboard.

Once we open the box we find two units. In the first we have the motherboard and the second all the accessories. In other words, your bundle is made up of:

  • MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium motherboard. Back plate. Instruction manual and quick guide. CD disk with drivers. SATA Cable sets. Normal SLI bridges. Stickers to identify wiring. Cables to connect LED strips. Screws. Cable for two connections. LED (Mystic). USB 3.0 thief internal. USB Xpander to increase the internal USB heads.

The MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium It is an ATX format motherboard with dimensions of 30.5 cm x 24.4 cm for the LGA 1151 socket. We are in front of one of the brand's flagships, where we see a sublime platinum design and some first-rate components.

For the most curious I leave you a view of the back of the motherboard.

Like all motherboards in this new generation, it has two zones with cooling: the most important for the power supply phases and the second for the Z270 chipset. It has nothing more and nothing less than 16 power phases supported by Military Class 5 technology

What is this Military technology for? Incorporating the forefront of today's most important integrated components, this helps us to have a better experience, stability and durability of one of the most important components of our PC configuration.

On the heatsink of the power phases we see a small bezel that goes down to the sound card. Actually, the option it offers is to improve the aesthetics of the product. Finally and as we always show you, a detailed image of the 8 + 4-pin EPS connection.

Thanks to the 4 DDR4 RAM sockets it allows us to install a total of 64 GB with frequencies of up to 4133 Mhz and compatible with the XMP 2.0 profile. Next to the slots we find the voltage meter and two SATA connections for storage.

The MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium has a layout that stands out from the rest, since it allows us to connect four AMD graphics cards in CrossFireX but only two Nvidia in SLI (Although if you have two Pascal GPUs it is logical). Along with the 4 PCI Express x16 connections, it is accompanied by two PCI Express x1 connections to expand the equipment with a video capturer or an expansion controller.

Its PCI-E Steel Armor technology stands out for both PCI-Express connections and DDR4 memory slots. What is the point of reinforcement? Especially for heavy weight graphics cards (very thick heatsink) and to improve data transfer.

It incorporates three slots for the M.2 connection and thus install any disk of this format and type 2242/2260/2280/22110 (42/60/80 and 110mm). Which allows us to connect together with the U.2 Slot connections and get the maximum possible bandwidth on this motherboard.

It makes it one of the best motherboards for all the details it incorporates. One of its strongest points is the new Audio Boost 4 sound card signed by the Realtek ALC1220 chip that supports 7.1 channels. As a whole it is combined with the benefits of Nahimic 2, compatibility with sound amplifiers and capacitors designed for the most lovers of sound. Its characteristics make it an option to consider.

It is also important to highlight the number of connections and the excellent control panel. It allows us to activate quick overclock options, turn off the system, restart it and look at the Debug LED for any errors in the startup and / or temperatures at all times of the system.

On storage it has a total of 8 SATA III 6 Gb / s ports so we will not lack storage capacity, we can also perfectly combine all the advantages of the high speed of SSDs and the large capacity of HDDs. Leave out the SATA Express connection and come two U.2 Slot connections, ideal for new storage disks.

Finally highlight the two Gigabit 10/100/1000 network connections signed by Intel, specifically the i219-V that is present in this new generation and the Intel i211AT. We detail the rear connections:

  • 1 x PS / 2 for keyboard and mouse. 1 x Clear CMOS. 3 x USB 2.0 Type A. 2 x LAN (RJ45). 4 x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A. 1 x DisplayPort. 1 x HDMI. 1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A.1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C. 7-channel digital audio outputs.

To check the stability of the i7-7700k processor at 4500 MHZ (stock values) and the motherboard we have stressed with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphics that we have used is an Nvidia GTX 1080, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a 1920 x 1080 monitor. In terms of overclocking we have managed to set it to 5 GHz but the voltage and temperatures shot up with any benchmark, processor problem and its poor sealing.

BIOS

The BIOS maintains the same format as in previous generations. The modification possibilities are easy to predict and its operation is very simple. As always, it comes very complete, since it allows us to customize the speed of the fans, monitor all the connected components and change any essential equipment option. We really like this new BIOS!

Final words and conclusion about MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium

The MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium becomes MSI's new flagship on the LGA 1151 platform with Z270 chipset. Without a doubt, we are in front of one of the most complete motherboards of this generation.

In brief, it incorporates RGB lighting technology, 16 power phases, a very careful design with a platinum-colored PCB and Military Class V components.

In our tests we have reached 5 GHz quickly, although the processor does not have a Delid and the drastic rise in temperatures is noticeable and we have done internal tests. To do the official tests on the web, we have decided to leave it in stock, since it runs the i7-7700k at 4500 MHz. Which are great too!

As a drawback, we found that it does not have a Wi-Fi 802.11 AC 2 × 2 connection, although we do not see it as totally essential… Its incorporation is always appreciated. Another point that many users will not be able to buy, is its price… currently we can find it in online stores for around 345 euros plus shipping and for this reason you have to rethink a fighter and pretty MSI Z270 Gaming PRO Carbon.
