Few motherboards can look as good as the new MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium for the AM4 socket. A silver colored PCB, ceramic heatsinks, build quality, a good layout in your PCI Express connections and excellent performance. You want to know more? Well, here we go!

We are grateful for the trust in MSI Spain for sending the product for analysis:

MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium It comes packed in a large cardboard box, where the color silver predominates and an image of the motherboard on its cover. Ryzen! Ryzen!

Once we turn the box, we find the back of it. In it, we have detailed the main technical characteristics and some of its specifications.

Once we open the box we find two units. In the first we have the motherboard and the second all the accessories. In other words, your bundle is made up of:

  • MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium motherboard. Back plate. Instruction manual and quick guide. CD disk with drivers. SATA Cable sets. Normal SLI bridges. Stickers to identify wiring. Adapters to connect LED strips. Screws.

The MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium It is an ATX format motherboard with dimensions of 30.5 cm x 24.4 cm for the AM4 socket. We are in front of one of the best motherboards on the market. We fall in love with its platinum design and ceramic components.

For the most curious I leave you a view of the back of the motherboard.

Like all motherboards in this new generation, it has two zones with cooling: the most important for the power supply phases and the second for the X370 chipset, which is not very hot. It has nothing more and nothing less than 10 phases of feeding supported by Military Class 5 technology . To be honest… we expected at least a greater number of phases, as it happens with its Z270 sisters… We are waiting for a new revision from MSI!

What is this Military Class technology for? It incorporates better current components, offering greater stability and durability. Furthermore, they are more efficient and allow better overclocking.

On the heatsink of the power phases we see a small bezel that goes down to the sound card. Actually, the option it offers is to improve the aesthetics of the product. Finally and as we always show you, a detailed image of the 8 + 4-pin EPS connection.

Thanks to the 4 DDR4 RAM sockets it allows us to install a total of 64 GB with frequencies of up to +3200 Mhz and compatible with the AMP DDR4 profile. Along with the slots we find a DEBUG LED, a USB 3.0 connection and 24-pin power.

The MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium has a layout that stands out from the rest, since it allows us to connect three AMD graphics cards in CrossFireX but only two Nvidia in SLI. Along with the three PCI Express x16 connections, it is accompanied by three other PCI Express x1 connections to expand the equipment with other expansion cards.

Its PCI-E Steel Armor technology stands out for both PCI-Express connections and DDR4 memory slots. What is the point of reinforcement? Especially for heavy weight graphics cards (very thick heatsink) and to improve data transfer.

It incorporates two slots for the M.2 connection and thus install any disk of this format and type 2242/2260/2280/22110 (42/60/80 and 110mm). Which allows us to connect together with the U.2 Slot connections and get the maximum possible bandwidth on this motherboard.

M.2 technology is also present. Shield that helps improve the cooling of M.2 disks.

It makes it one of the best motherboards for all the details it incorporates. One of its strongest points is the new Audio Boost 4 sound card signed by the Realtek ALC1220 chip that supports 7.1 channels. As a whole it is combined with the benefits of Nahimic 2, compatibility with sound amplifiers and capacitors designed for the most lovers of sound. Its characteristics make it an option to consider.

When we are in the lower area of the board, we see a control panel that allows us to turn on the computer, restart it and apply an automatic overclock. To better power graphics cards we have a 6-pin PCI Express connection.

On the storage it has a total of 6 SATA III 6 Gb / s ports so we will not be very fair. Although it is complemented by a U.2 slot and two internal USB 3.0 connections.

We detail the rear connections:

  • 1 x PS / 21 x Clear CMOS 3 x USB 2.0 Type-A1 x DisplayPort 1 x HDMI 2.01 x LAN (RJ45) 4 x USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A1 x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C5 x OFC audio jacks1 x Optical S / PDIF OUT connector

To check the stability of the AMD Ryzen 1800X processor at 4000 MHZ (in all its cores) and the motherboard we have stressed with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphics we have used is an Nvidia GTX 1080, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a monitor of 1920 x 1080, 2K and 4K.

WE RECOMMEND YOU MSI presents its new GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards

BIOS

MSI has revamped its BIOS interface and although it is quite complete, it still lacks a bit of stability to keep the memories at 3000 MHz. Since we have only been able to set it to 2666 and not 100% stable. We have also seen that it is not the manufacturer that is launching the most BIOS in this release, they are points to keep in mind.

Regarding its functionalities, it allows us to monitor temperatures, overclock from BIOS and modify the profiles of each of the fans. The result is very good in general.

Final words and conclusion about MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium

The MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium ranks among the best alternatives MSI offers on the new AM4 platform. Its aesthetics, components and cooling are its strong points.

As we have already mentioned, it comes equipped with 10 power phases, more than enough to get the most out of the 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 processors. A DUAL M.2 configuration to take advantage of the 32 GB / s bandwidth offered by motherboards, the possibility of installing 4100 MHz DDR4 memory and SLI configurations.

In our tests we have been able to go up to 4 GHz to 1800X in all its cores, obtaining a great result. The truth, that we expected something more from this new MSI X370 Xpower Gaming Titanium but we believe that with a BIOS debugging you can go far. But is that only within MSI's reach?

We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market.

On the storage we see it quite complete with two SLOT U.2, 8 SATA connections and an MSI Shield M.2 cooling system that will be great to keep the temperatures of the new NVMe SSD drives at bay.

It is currently listed in the main Spanish stores with a price of about 310 euros approximately. Is the best option? Well at the moment it is difficult to answer this question… with the great shortage of motherboards and there are not many that we have tried. But they all sin the same: green BIOS and a platform that still has a lot to debug both at the operating system and driver level. Time will answer this question.

ADVANTAGE

DISADVANTAGES

+ THE DESIGN IS PRECIOUS.

- WE EXPECTED A GREATER NUMBER OF PHASES. SINCE IT IS A 300 EUROS BASE PLATE.
+ QUALITY OF ITS COMPONENTS. - BIOS IS VERY GREEN. THEY MUST IMPROVE IN MAINTAINING FREQUENCIES OF +2666 MHZ TO THE MEMORIES.

+ INCORPORATES MSI SHIELD M.2

+ LAYOUT OF PCI EXPRESS CONNECTIONS.

+ U.2 CONNECTIONS, IMPROVED SUPPLY AND STRENGTHENING IN PCI EXPRESS SLOTS.
