Mushkin Pilot is a new series of SSD storage units, based on the M.2 format and compatible with the NVMe protocol, something that offers a very compact and high-speed storage medium. We review all the features these new SSDs offer.

Mushkin Pilot, all about the new 3D NAND TLC memory-based storage units

Mushkin Pilot is a new series of SSD drives that are manufactured using 3D NAND TLC memory, which allows it to offer 120GB, 250GB, 500GB and 1TB versions, for lower prices than those based on MLC memory. Next to this memory is a controller signed by Silicon Motion. All this under a PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface, which offers a bandwidth of 4000 MB / s, more than enough to guarantee the correct operation of all NVMe SSDs.

We recommend reading our post on the best SSDs of the moment SATA, M.2 NVMe and PCIe (2018)

With these features the Mushkin Pilot is capable of offering a sequential transfer rate of up to 2, 710 MB / s for reading and up to 1, 755 MB / s for writing, with 4K random performance with a maximum of 335, 000 IOPS for reading and 280, 000 IOPS for writing.. A very high performance, but that is somewhat far from what the highest-end NVMe SSDs are capable of offering, even so, it is well above what an SSD based on the SATA III 6 GB / s interface can offer.

The entire Mushkin Pilot series will be backed by a 3-year warranty and will be available soon. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not reveal any details regarding the price, so we will have to wait a little longer to know their prices and know if they are worth it compared to the other solutions on the market.
