E-Sports is a very profitable business so all companies want to have their share in this juicy market. The last to show its interest has been Nintendo, which could bet on launching new IPs related to electronic sports.

Nintendo wants to bet on e-Sports

Based on the launch of ARMs, a new multiplayer IP, and Splatoon 2, Nintendo has taken an interest in eSports, a trend that will continue as the momentum of the new Switch cuts across the industry. But it lacks a critical component: proper online engagement.

In the company's recent financial Q&A, Nintendo President T atsumi Kimishima gave an optimistic view on eSports. The seeds of e-Sports competitions were planted in the developer trailer for Switch, and we've slowly seen those seeds flourish with top-tier games like ARM and Splatoon 2, as well as third-party titles like Rocket League.

Kimishima claims that eSports have directly influenced the way Nintendo makes its games. With the paid Switch Online subscription service, the company faces a tough task of having to do not only a competent service that is consistently stable, but must also include key social elements and engage players with features such as viewers and a Natural rewards program to keep players in the ecosystem.
