Noctua will not offer upgrade kits for threadripper tr4 sockets
Table of contents:
Bad news for owners of a Noctua heatsink and were planning to use them in Threadripper. The famous manufacturer has come out to confirm that it will not offer upgrade kits for the Threadripper TR4 and EPYC SP3 sockets that will come later.
Noctua will not release upgrade kit for Threadripper TR4 sockets. What is the reason?
Noctua has already offered upgrade kits to be able to use their heatsinks with different sockets in the past, but this time it will not be possible. The manufacturer argued that the latest heatsinks on the market are intended for smaller CPUs and not Threadripper, which is larger.
If a mounting kit were used to be able to use the current heatsinks with Threadripper, this would cover only 50% of the HIS, so the heat dissipation would not be uniform throughout the chip, therefore, it would not make much sense to adapt it.
Noctua also commented that, at the time of Threadripper launch, it will not have new heatsinks ready for these CPUs, so we will have to use the ones that come by default with the purchase of a Threadripper.
Other manufacturers such as Corsair, NZXT, Cryorig, BeQuiet! Are in the same situation . o Cooler Master , who, at the time of writing, have also not confirmed that they will have heatsinks for Threadripper at launch. The only manufacturer that has done so is Arctic Cooling , which would have even liquid-cooled solutions ready.
Ryzen Threadripper will officially launch on August 10 from $ 799 for the 12-core solution.
