Google revealed today that Google+ has suffered another massive data breach, forcing the tech giant to shut down its social network four months ahead of schedule, that is, in April 2019 instead of August 2019.

Google+ brings forward its closure for April 2019

Google said it discovered another critical security vulnerability in one of the Google+ People APIs that could have allowed developers to steal private information from 52.5 million users, including their name, email address, occupation, and age.

The vulnerable API in question is called "People: get", which has been designed to allow developers to request basic information associated with a user profile.

However, the software update in November introduced the bug in the Google+ People API that allowed apps to view user information even if a user profile was set to non-public.

Google engineers discovered the security issue during standard testing procedures and addressed it within one week of learning about this problem. The company said it found no evidence that the vulnerability was exploited or that its users' data was misused by third-party application developers.

Google also assured its users that this API error did not expose passwords, financial data, identification numbers or any other confidential data in sight.

Almost two months ago, Google revealed a massive data breach that exposed the private data of more than 500, 000 Google+ users to third-party developers, and also announced the closure of its failed social network in late August 2019. However, now Google is going to advance the closing for the month of April, so they are wanting to get this problem out of as soon as possible.
