New virus circulates through google play and affects 2 million users

There is a new virus in the city. Occasionally news about a new virus comes out that puts the security of computers or mobiles in check. This new virus directly affects all those with an Android device.

The name of this new malware is FalseGuide. Its authorship is attributed to a group of Russian hackers seeking to create an army of Android zombies. How does FalseGuide work? The virus has been detected on Google Play. The vast majority of affected users have been by downloading games such as FIFA or Pokémon Go. This virus asks you to accept a permission when installing the game. This permission consists in giving access to the telephone administrator. This way they can take control of your device.

2 million users affected

For a couple of months there has been a debate on the exact number of those affected. It was estimated that they were about 600, 000 users, but it seems that the number that is closest to reality is that of 2 million users. All of them accepted the permission to give the phone administrator access to the application. The main problem in doing that, not only is that the people behind the malware have access to your data, there are other problems. It is almost impossible mission to uninstall the application.

Users make attempts to uninstall the application, but in the vast majority of cases it has no effect. What is the purpose of FalseGuide? There have been many rumors about it, but it seems that for the moment the affected users have been attacked by a lot of advertising. It is not known if there has been any data theft or use of the same, although it cannot be ruled out that it could happen.

How to know if you are infected

There are several ways to check it. An easy way to know is to go to settings and then security on your device. There look at the system administrator section. Check that there is no unknown application that has permission on it. If so, proceed to uninstall this application.

In general, to avoid becoming one of the millions affected by FalseGuide, try to take the usual precautions. Google Play has confirmed that it has removed the suspicious app from its store, so there should be no problems with downloading through it. Although, if you are going to make downloads, official and trusted sites like Google Pla and are the recommended ones.
