New details of amd's 16-core processor, to be announced in May
Table of contents:
The AMD Ryzen processors have come stomping, the new Zen microarchitecture has shown excellent performance, especially in multi-threading where they have managed to stay ahead of their great rival Intel with much more aggressive prices. For now the Ryzen 1800X is the most powerful processor that we can find on the market with this new microarchitecture, although this will change very soon. We already told you that Sunnyvale's were working on a new Zen-based monster chip and finally we have more details and its possible presentation date.
New Features of AMD's Monstrous 16-Core Processor
AMD works on a new Zen-based processor that will be a true powerhouse in performance, this new chip will have a total of 16 physical cores and 32 processing threads thanks to SMT technology that achieves two threads for each physical core. This processor will operate at a speed of 2.4 GHz in base mode and 2.8 GHz in turbo mode, despite this, it will maintain a fairly contained TDP of 150W, very similar to the 140W of Intel HEDT processors.
This processor will come loaded with important innovations, the first of which is that the pins will move to the motherboard so we have already ruled out 100% any compatibility with AM4, it will also release a new X399 chipset and a quad chanel memory controller to increase largely the bandwidth available. The new chipset will provide a greater number of PCI-Express lines to take full advantage of a large number of NVMe disks and graphics cards.
This new processor will be very large, AMD says that approximately twice that of a Core i7-6950X and will be announced at Computex in late May for a price close to $ 1, 000, a high price but lower than the Core i7-6950X and the Intel's Xeon processors that it promises to spray thanks to its large number of cores, Zen has already proven to be the best architecture available for running applications with intensive multi-threading.
