NVIDIA just unveiled its first Turing GPU-based Quadro RTX graphics card for development of Ray Tracing, Compute and AI. The graphics card was demonstrated by running the famous Star Wars scene in Ray-Tracing. This is the first time this demo has been run on a single-chip graphics card, the same feat that previously required four Quadro GV100 GPUs.
NVIDIA Demonstrates Star Wars Ray-Tracing on a Single Quadro RTX Graphics Card
Quadro RTX 8000 is the Turing-based graphics card that offers up to 96GB of GDDR6 memory. That's a large amount of memory, which seems to be necessary to power future Ray-Tracing graphics, and NVIDIA is taking the lead in this segment. Four Quadro graphics cards based on the Volta GV100 GPU were required to run the same Star Wars demo, but now only the Turing-based Quadro RTX 8000 is needed.
Quadro RTX GPUs are designed for demanding visual computing workloads, such as those used in film and video content creation, automotive and architectural design, and scientific visualization. They far exceed the previous generation with innovative technologies, including;
New technologies, price and availability
Turing Streaming, which includes up to 4, 608 CUDA cores, offers up to 16 trillion floating point operations in parallel with 16 trillion integer operations per second to speed up complex simulation of real-world physics.
New programmable shading technologies and Nvidia NVLink that allows two GPUs to be combined with a high-speed link to expand memory capacity up to 96 GB and achieve higher performance with a data transfer rate of up to 100 GB / s. Hardware support for USB Type-C and VirtualLink, plus dedicated technologies especially for VR, such as Variable Rate Shading, Multi-View Rendering and VRWorks Audio.
Nvidia has released a total of three Quadro RTX cards
- Quadro RTX 8000 with 48GB memory: $ 10, 000 estimated price RTX 6000 with 24GB memory: $ 6, 300 RTX 5000 with 16GB memory: $ 2, 300
All models will be available from the fourth quarter.
