Jon Peddie Research has released the latest report on the discrete GPU market, showing how NVIDIA has taken the lead with respect to market share against its longtime rival. The report is from the third quarter of 2017 and there has been a lot of progress in the GPU industry, so let's take a look.

Discrete graphics card shipments are the highest in the past 5 years: The market is performing extremely well with a 29.1% increase over the previous quarter.

Generally speaking, speaking of the market itself, in the third quarter of 2017 there was an increase in the shipment of discrete GPUs. The market share includes all graphics cards from manufacturers and their AIB partners. Integrated GPU solutions are not considered.

NVIDIA tops the market with 72.8%

Market demand for mining and gambling was a record for discrete graphics cards. This increased sales by 29.1% compared to the previous quarter and 21.5% compared to the same period last year. Due to the increase in demand, the market experienced a notable increase in the number of shipments.

NVIDIA has increased its market share in discrete GPU to 72.8% (69.7% in the previous quarter). In contrast, AMD has slightly decreased to 27.2% (compared to 30.3% in the previous quarter).
