A study on the graphics card market (GPU) is revealed, which shows data on graphics card sales during the third quarter of 2016, yielding very promising numbers for the AMD and Nvidia companies.

AMD and Nvidia grow but PC market falls 5%

During the third quarter of 2016, Nvidia sold 20% more graphics cards (GPUs) when compared to the second quarter and 2.2% if compared to the same period as the previous year. Meanwhile, Nvidia's global GPU shipments increased 39%, AMD shipments increased 20%, and Intel GPU shipments saw 18% growth from the previous quarter. A year-over-year comparison shows that GPU shipments increased 0.3% from the third quarter of 2015, with graphics for desktop PCs reporting a 4% decrease and graphics for notebooks a 3% increase.

Money generated on PC vs Consoles

An interesting fact that JPR (Jon Peddie Research) provides is in regards to the PCs and Video Game Consoles market. As seen in the graph, in the last quarter the PC is far outperforming the consoles in terms of the money generated. While the consoles generated a profit of 90, 000 million dollars, on PC that profit rises to 200, 000 million dollars.

Returning to the graphics card market, sales of Nvidia's discrete GPUs (not the top of the range) were among the products that most increased their sales compared to the previous quarter, up 39.8%. In Laptops that increase was more or less the same and rose 38.7%

For its part, AMD also increased its sales of discrete GPUs from quarter to quarter with 34.7% for computers and 23% for laptops.

If we include the data from AMD, Nvidia and Intel, we have that the sales of GPUs (including integrated and discrete GPUs) increased by 146%, this means that compared to the previous year they sold 14.96%.

The overall PC market declined 5.37% over the previous year.

Market Share: Nvidia - AMD - Intel

Finally we have the table of quota of merado of graphic cards.

Intel continues to lead this market thanks to integrated graphics but its share decreases compared to the previous year by 1.9%. AMD is up 1.5% and Nvidia is only up 0.4%.
