NVIDIA continues to show the real-time ray tracing capabilities of the new GeForce RTX graphics, and this CES 2019 has shown the second version of Project Sol, a cinematic that tries to take advantage of this feature.

The second part of Project Sol seeks to show the capabilities of NVIDIA in Ray Tracing

Already at the GeForce RTX graphics presentation event, NVIDIA had shown the first part of this kinematics. We are specifically talking about the Gamescom 2018 event on August 20 of last year.

In both cinematics, what is shown is a man in a metallic suit (reminding us of Iron Man), with the difference that now this man goes outside and flies through a planet similar to Mars, ending with a fall in the style of Iron Man. As is evident given his demonstration purposes, a large number of reflective surfaces are used, where the visual impact of ray tracing can be appreciated.

We leave you above the first part of this cinematic, this is the new one:

The key to these videos is that, according to NVIDIA, it's all part of a real-time rendering, not a movie. Of course, the real-time rendering is in charge of a Quadro RTX 6000, professional graphics that costs about 7, 000 euros.

Everything you just saw, everything you have seen, all the lights, all the shadows, all the animation, everything, all the ray tracing… 100% was in real time. This is not a movie, these are the next generation graphics, this is what RTX allows.

This new form of graphics that brings together rasterization for things you can do really well, ray tracing for things you just can't do, artificial intelligence just works.

Certainly, RTX graphics with real-time ray tracing have not left the best feeling among users due to performance that has not met expectations. However, videos like this remind us that this is only the beginning and that real-time ray tracing is the future. In fact, a few hours ago we told you that AMD is also working on it and we will know more soon.

We recommend reading our article:

  • What is NVIDIA ray tracing? And what is it for?

What do you think about it? Do you think this cinematic reflects the present or rather what is to come? Don't forget to leave your opinion in the comments.
