NVIDIA made it possible for Ray Tracing effects to now be compatible with the GTX 'Pascal' series. With this move, NVIDIA somehow 'democratizes' the use of RTX effects through Windows DXR, allowing the GTX series to be supported as well, but also serving as an incentive to upgrade to the RTX series.

NVIDIA three Ray Tracing demos for RTX and GTX graphics cards

To get an idea of how Ray Tracing works, especially on those non-RTX graphics cards, NVIDIA makes available the technical demonstrations of Star Wars, Atomic Heart and Justice.

The Star Wars demo is best known, undoubtedly, with its studies on reflections on Captain Phasma's breastplate. Atomic Heart is another one that uses RTX for reflections and shadows, while Justice adds caustics to that equation. If you have a Turing graphics card, you can try these demos in all their glory, and with DLSS technology to improve performance.

If you have a GTX 'Pascal' graphics card, you will not have that DLSS performance improvement mode available, so the performance would be worse. Follow the embedded links for our downloads of these technical demos.

The following GeForce graphics cards are DXR compatible:

And all those notebooks with equivalent Pascal and Turing architectures.

All DXR effects are compatible with the Pascal series of graphics cards and the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti via the latest Game Ready 425.31 WHQL drivers.
