If a recent submission from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) is legit, the GeForce RTX 2060 could have a 'refresh' in no time.

Nvidia RTX 2060 could be updated with more memory

The GeForce RTX 2060 originally came with TU106 silicon, with 1, 920 CUDA cores and 6GB of 14Gbps GDDR6 memory. EVGA would later surgically swap the silicon in the TU106 for the larger silicon in the TU104 on its GeForce RTX2060 KO Gaming graphics card. The EVGA change was negligible as the same specifications were carried over to the new variant. This time, however, the GeForce RTX 2060 could potentially get a real update.

The Asus EEC file, which was released yesterday, mentions three variants of the ROG Strix RTX 2060 with 8GB of GDDR6 memory instead of the default setting of 6GB.

There are some possible theories before we rush to jump to conclusions. For starters, this could all be human error. Asus uses a fairly similar naming scheme for its graphics card, so it's easy to get confused.

Another possibility is that Asus is only registering the part numbers in case Nvidia decides to refresh this graphics card with more memory in the future.

If Nvidia upgrades the GeForce RTX 2060, it would put the graphics card on par with the Super variant in terms of memory. The Super variant would not be affected in terms of performance, since it still has a higher number of CUDA cores (2, 176 compared to 1, 920 for the GeForce RTX 2060).

Performance wise, the GeForce RTX 2060 lags behind AMD's Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5600 XT, powered by Navi. Would the GeForce RTX 2060 be able to bridge this gap with 2GB of additional GDDR6 memory?

However, having 8 GB of memory would make the GeForce RTX 2060 look good alongside the Radeon RX 5600 XT, which only has 6 GB of GDDR6 memory. The Radeon RX 5600 XT has a slight performance advantage over the 2060. The extra memory could come in handy in high-resolution gaming, and could help push the GeForce RTX 2060 forward, if only for a bit.

We will see in what remains this list of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). We will keep you informed.
