Apu processors for socket am4 will arrive in 2017 with hbm memory

Since last year AMD is preparing to launch its new Zen architecture and the new socket that will house this entire new family of FX and APU processors . Today we have already advanced some details about the so-called AM4 platform , which will be the successor of the current AM3 + that has been with us for several years.

The last thing we can know about the new Zen architecture and the new APU processors is that AMD has decided that these processors and the FX line share the same AM4 socket, something quite beneficial since to use the FX line you needed an AM3 + motherboard socket and for APUs an FM2, with this initiative you gain comfort.

The bad news so far is that the new Zen processor-based APUs wo n't arrive until next year. Codenamed Raven Ridge , the new APUs will be manufactured in 14nm by AMD's regular partner, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, so consumption would be dramatically improved over the current line of APU processors we have on the market.

The new APU processors with integrated HBM memory

One of the most important innovations that these new AMD APU processors will have is that they will have HBM memory for the integrated graphics card in the same package, instead of using system memory. This would allow a higher data transmission speed (higher graphics performance) without affecting both the consumption of the processor thanks to the benefits of the new HBM memories. It is known that the integrated graphics of the new APUs will use the new Graphics Core Next architecture. 4.0 (GCN 1.3). The company in charge of carrying out all the packaging would be Amkor with a 14nm manufacturing process, not only for the APUs but also for the new FX processors.

The AM4 socket with a maximum TDP of 140W

Finally, the new AM4 socket will also serve to lower the maximum TDP of its architecture to 140W instead of the maximum 225W that the 9000 series FX had in the AM3 + sockets.
