Sometimes we need to reassign keys in Windows 10 to be able to use our keyboard to our liking. This especially occurs if for example certain characters are located differently than what we are used to or when we want to change the functions of the F keys and they do not have a software to do so. Another of the most common situations is that our keyboard has broken a key and we need to use a different one in order to have the character that we have lost. We will see and solve all this in this article.

To reassign keys in Windows 10 we will need to install some of the programs that we will present below. Windows does not natively have a solution to make these kinds of changes on our keyboard.
Let's see then some very used tools to make these nice changes to our keyboard.
Reassign keys in Windows 10 with KeyTweak
One of the most used programs to reassign keys in Windows 10 is KeyTweak. Thanks to this program we will be able to reassign any function to any key quite easily.
It is free software that we can download by going to this website
After downloading it, we will have to install it in the simplest possible way, just by pressing Next on all the windows.
In principle, the keys will be numbered, and it will seem like a standard keyboard whatever keyboard we have.
To change the function of a key we will do the following:
- We select the key that we want to change. It will appear to us which assignment is the one they currently have at the bottom. To select a new function we will press on “ Choose New Remapping ” We choose the function that we want to assign to the key
- Now what we will have to do is click on “ Remap Key ”. Then we click on the “ apply ” button to finally apply the changes. It will warn us that the registry will be modified and Windows will explode… or not. Click on " Accept" to continue. Now our team will restart to apply the changes
We recommend reassigning all the keys you want before applying the changes, this way we will only have to restart once
When the system is opened again we will test the changes made. If we press the key in question, we will see that it will now have the function that we have assigned it.
Restore keyboard to default values
If we look at the top of the program, we will have a table informing us of the changes that we have active on our keyboard.
If we click on the “ Restore all defaults ” button, the keyboard will return to how it was. Obviously we will have to restart again for the changes to be applied.
Other programs to remap keys
But this is not the only program that we have available for free to reassign keys on our keyboard. Some of the best known options are as follows.
MapKeyboard
This application is extremely similar to the previous one, although it has the detail of representing the keys with characters instead of numbers. In this way we can better identify them to be able to change them.
We can download it from this web page. Be careful when we install it, since we must be alert not to install the adware that will be presented to us along the way. We must see if it will appear and click on " Ignore"
Once downloaded, the program is portable and will be located in a compressed file.
The procedure to change the letters is very simple, we click on the key represented in the program and choose the one we want to remap in the drop-down list in the lower area “ Remap selected key to ”
Key mapper
This is another of the programs that we have chosen for its intuitive and simple interface. It is also free and we can download it from this link, we only have to click on " download " to download the executable.
It is also a drinkable program and with a pleasant, but very complete interface.
In the lower right area we can select the keyboard configuration that we want. The operation is as follows:
- If we click on a key and drag it on top of another, it will be reassigned with the function of the previous one. If we click on a key and drag it out of the program, this key will be deactivated. If we double-click on a key, we will be able to configure the reassignment function that we want to perform more exhaustively.
In any case, when everything is as we want we will have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
When we want to revert all the configuration we must go to the toolbar and click on " Mappings " and then choose "clear all mappings " or " revert to saved " if we already had it saved
We believe that these programs are more than enough to start doing wrong on our keyboard and thus be able to reassign keys in Windows 10
