Qualcomm announced a few hours ago the arrival of a new processor for the upper mid-range of mobile phones, the Snapdragon 675 SoC chip.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 arrives to improve the mid-high range of smartphones

Qualcomm formally unveiled the Snapdragon 675 SoC chip, a direct successor to last year's Snapdragon 670. The Snapdragon 675 brings some notable improvements and is the first to use the Kryo 460 CPU microarchitecture.

Kryo 460 runs at 2.0GHz (CA76) and 1.7GHz (CA55), CPUs built on an 11nm LPP process. Within this SoC chip is included the Qualcomm AI engine, Spectra 250 ISP and the Adreno 612 GPU to handle all the graphic aspects of applications and games.

Overall performance improvements are around 20%, with added optimizations for many mobile games. This includes Unity, Unreal, Messiah, and NeoX.

The camera is also updated. It now supports triple camera setup on the front or rear. This can have features such as telephoto, wide angle and super wide image capture. Also, the Snapdragon 675 provides unlimited slow motion. This means that it is capable of recording extended slow-motion video clips in high definition, not just bursts of a second or shorter.

Introducing a new microarchitecture into a mid-range product instead of a flagship one is also an interesting step. With this, the company promises a faster experience with the launch of applications between 15% and 30% faster compared to the Snapdragon 675. Interestingly, this improvement also makes the SP675 outperform the Snapdragon 710. The latter is a higher-end product that is 200MHz faster (albeit with earlier genre architecture).
