Qualcomm snapdragon 821 is announced

Qualcomm intends to continue its leadership in the market for processors for mobile devices, the American firm has announced the launch of its new top of the range, the Snapdragon 821 that is still a vitaminized version of the Snapdragon 820 to improve its performance.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 maintains exactly the same structure as its predecessor with four advanced Kryo cores manufactured in 16nm for high energy efficiency. These cores are divided into two clusters of two cores each, one of the clusters runs at a maximum frequency of 2.4 GHz and the remaining two cores run at 2 GHz, a major improvement over the Snapdragon 820 which sees its cores run at 2.16 Ghz and 1.6 Ghz.

As for the graphics, it still has the Adreno 530 GPU that also sees its operating frequency increased to 650 MHz compared to the 624 MHz of the original Snapdragon 820. For now no more details have been given but the improvements of this processor should not go beyond the mentioned increase in its operating frequency.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 will be used in the new top-of-the-range smartphones that are coming onto the market. We will have to wait for the Snapdragon 830 to see more profound changes in its design, perhaps then we will see the first processor formed by eight Kryo cores.
